Photoshop painting. The original is by Tony DiTerlizzi:

And here's the original:

Got some gorgeous detail in there. The hair, skin and leg scales work beautifully, though the small background area between the right ear (her left) and bits of hair is a little distracting. I have to say I prefer the way the rest of the tail works in the original image - the shadow is too dark in your piece and you don't get a sense of light glistening off the scales.

I like what you've done with the mask very much, though it looses a little emphasis due to the lighter contrast - maybe give the area around it a slightly lighter tone?

The breast doesn't seem to be quite as full/rounded as the original.

The only major distraction for me is the background, which doesn't really do the image any favours - what is it? It's not a shadow, doesn't really read as a silhouette but could work as one, if it's an aura could benefit from being lighter than the background.

Hope this helps...

I agree with Matt about the background taking from the image. I think the problem is that it's almost the same temperature as the rest of the image (specifically the wings). I threw the image into PS and played a tad...the color that seems to feel best to me is somewhere around "4D516A".

Everything else is excellent though, I would consider reworking the proportions on the left breast, but other than that...great job, I love it

Some minor changes:

First, the background is just abstract... well, almost, it should slightly remind that blur around the original. Anyway, I liked it, let me keep it, please. ;P

Done.

Guess it is now.

Thank ye for the C&C.

I like how you transformed the mood in something very warm and nice. Very cool. The expression on her face is slightly different, I'd stick with the original with this issue. She looks surprised in your picture and angry/bitch-like in the original. I think it's a matter of pulling the corners of the mouth down a little. Talking about pixels here ;)

[edit] oh by the way I'd change the background, I second mattmoss on that

Thank ye for the C&C.

You're welcome, good job with the updates!

As for the background, well... Its all down to personal preference innit? Artist's prerogative and all that ;-)

Well, I got to be honest..... The anatomy is way off, take some classes on figure drawing and you;ll understand. The deltoid musle is oversized for such a small biscep and triceps for that matter, its way too much musle mass to work such small arms, not to mention there has to be bone structure in there somewhere. try enlarging the arms to coincide with the upper body.....

Second of all I cant tell where the light source is being directed from, you have cast shadows sugesting its coming from (our) left side, yet the left side of her darkens as it rounds her side. Pick one light source and stick with it. Other than that it looks good :)

BigBalla: about the anatomy, I gotta defend his worK... it is obviously bizarre, and it was not meant to be photorealistic at all. You may have had that impression after the painting.
Anyway, DiTerlizzi admited the anatomic faults so, you're somewhat right. 8P
I like the bizarre appearance though, didn't want to change it. 8x

Abou the light source, I really can't see the problem. The light source is half-way between the center and the left side. It looks correct to me. O_o
