Now down to buisness.

Hello!

Been working on this character the past 2 weeks or so. This
project started out as a litle idea I had for praticing some
edgelooping. The character pretty much developed from that
doodle I did of him into what he is now. I used no reference
footage for none of his parts so far. Will probably do so for the
clothing folds I'm gonna need to do later.

The things that are "done" are his head, jacket, hands and boots.
The pants aren't detailed yet. Actually neither is the jacket but
the folds there are something I'm gonan worry about later on. i'm
thinking of adding a full Jedi robe over his jacket. That would be
two more peices of clothing to add so the folds in the jacket
wouldn't be visable anyway. The stroy about him is something I
intend to reveal later on when I feel he is finnished. All I can tell is
that he is, or was a Jedi. And from the look of his face you can tell
that he has seen battle.

No textures have been implented yet as can be seen. I have only
played with the shaders a bit. The thing I want crits on right now
is primarily the model itself. But of course later onI will texture him
and do more proper shading so then that will be to crit as well. If
you do have suggestion for shaders atm tho don't hesitate to say so.

Ok...here goes nothing :) Software used 3ds max 6

Heya. Started adding more details. Head first up of course. Fun to go back to it. I don't really wanna overdo the wrinkles so that he looks old but he does look somewhat fleshier now. I only worked around the left side of the eye so far tho. I wanna do them both individually to a chieve good assymetry.

Hello there, fancy seeing you here. I've gotta say i'm loving the improvements you have made to the head, the lips look much more like what they are supposed to and the scars are much better.

So as i get into danger of being deleted for being a fanboy i will comment on is the body, it just looks very boxy and flat try looking at a site like www.fineart.sk (http://www.fineart.sk) for referance the same goes for the legs. As for shaders are you talking about skin shaders or clothes as well, for the skin shader i suggest looking in the texturing forum there is a great thread called "Skin WIPs" or something full of tips (Yes i know you want himto look alien but the same rules apply here i think).

Hey Marty! Nice seein you around!

I agree bout the rest of him. I haven't really gone into detail mode on those parts. I need to put in folds n creases and such. I didn't really work on it alot. I will check that shader thing out. I wan't his skin to be...well realistic so to speak. You know it really helped taking a break from the head and doing the rest and then going back. Somehow I feel like I'm doing him faze like. like blockout first and then details. Still more to come :)

I once read that in this forum if yuo don't get many crits your not doing much wrong.

I however have two Crits for this one.

1 - He looks very shiny now, it doesn't seem right to me, what are you going for?

2 - The scar on his left eye, although looking very nasty(ouch), Should his eye lids be so messed up?

Glad to hear your having fun with this one.

Did you create concept drawings before the model? if so please post them for a better understanding

Hmm...if his eyelids need to..well..no not really nut ahmm..I'll see about that.

Sorry no scetches...I do everything in 3d. well this time I did. No references either. It started as a doodle that went good...hehe. At least to me.

Hello again.

Minor fixes to the topology. I just went on a seach and destroy mission amongs bad polys.

What mattes in this update tho is the shader. Been playing with that and changed completeley from Translucend to Oren-Nayar blinn. Ditched the skylight and set up a fake system with soft ambient lightning. The result was satisactory IMO. Imporvement wise that is :)

Colortest. This is somewhat the color I wanted for him from the start. Testing with it again...fits him I think.

Thatīs cool for caracter without an concept to modeling!
I have 2 observation:

- The caracter is an alien? because is a litle bit square.
Try to smoth more, the low poly working in the base of the mesh! ( for me sound more beatiful)

- and the shader is a bit reflective.

If this helps!

That head's coming on quite well. I prefer it with an obviously non-human skin colour. The rest of the body needs some serious work though, it looks like a toy at the moment. From the side view his body is completely straight, try to play around with the proportions a little more like you're doing with the head...

Thanx for the reply guys.

The shader for the head ain't don't by a longshot. I'm really trying to achieve something good but its not easy. Seems skin is the everlasting problem

Glad u like the head. The rest is...well it isn't really to put it in a more correct perspective, done at all. The body has been blocked out mostly for myself so I can see what I wanna go for. The only thing I'm happy with is the hands. I wanna detail each part on its own. And right now the focus is the head. When I feel happy ther I'll move on. So I agree with the body being too blocky.

More to come :)
