Created in Photoshop 7 and Painter 8

The idea behind this piece was to have a warrior/diety sitting on a rock face looking at a rose petal floating in the wind, while smoke billowed up from a battlefield far below.

The problem I know of already is that the flower petals look like feathers (and they may be changed into exactly that, not sure yet). Other than that and the obvious unfinished parts I'm not sure where to take it next.

Kill me with criticisms please.

Don't really know what is finished and what isn't, so excuses if I cover something you're already thinking about changing.

Let me start by saying I like the composition you've got very much. The main problem as far as I can see is that the figure completely blends into the background. You've already got some ncie highlight areas in there but I would make the light on his skin a lot whiter, to give him more of a silhouette. He would look good with stronger contrast all over, to balance out the darkness of the hair.

The ribbons are way too dark and distracting for the rest of the image, and should be used to direct the viewer's eye towards the figure. I would make them thinner at least and probably more varied/billowing. I'd also raise the lower one slightly further from his arm.

The smoke doesn't look like it's billowing. Have a crack at making it more cloud-like, at the moment because of the direction of the marks, it looks like its shooting straight up. The part where it completely obscures the ribbon looks too opaque.

The flower petals/feathers work well, even though it'd not entirely distinct what they are - if they are feathers, then you run the risk of it looking like he's just killed a seagull above him ;-)

The rock also works well, even if the marks are looser than the rest of the image.

Overall, you've got the beginnings of a very nice piece of work here, keep us posted with updates...
