I am doing this for a project in school, and I have two versions. One with DOF, the other without.

with:

I am using Max 5 and would ideally like to have DOF used but keep the heart as crisp as possible. I took a big break from CG and I don't really know how to achieve this. I will be making an animation with this so I can't just photoshop the effect I want.

well anyway please give me your comments. Does it even look like a heart and lungs? is it visually pleasing? ect?

Great work!

I think you captured the overall impression well.
I would suggest turning the blood vessels on the lungs more into organic forms - pointy and edgy as they are they remind me more of an electric circuit right now.

It does look like a heart and lungs. I like the version with the DOF better. If you wanted the heart to be the center of focus I think you achieved it because my eye is drawn there.
