So, this is my first post on CGtalk and also my first pic. It's nothing special, just like it (it remembers me on my childhood). It was made in 3DSMax 4.2.

Have a nice day!

Well, I think your model is fine because it's pretty close to your reference there - although I think the mouth needs some tweaking still... It's a bit too perfect, whereas the actual thing has been hand-carved and is therefore a bit lopsided.

Your texturing so far, however, is not right. Firstly, your spec/ref levels are too high which makes your model look like it is coated with varnish, which the reference is not.
You're also getting some nasty stretching of your wood texture - especially at the point where the ear joins the head.
The texture image you're using for the wood is also far too small. It's horribly pixellated. Try making a higher res one :)

Thanks Leigh, yes the textures need some work, esspecially the stretching around ears (it is simple cilindrical mapping applied to whole object. I thought that would be right, since the wooden statue is cut out of tree's trunk-which is almost a cilinder). The real statue actually is that specular and it is coated with varnish (sorry for bad ref pictures, but they were only used for reference, nothing artistic... :) )
