Hi everyone,

I have a personal desktop which i used as a CG workstation. And I'm also using it to surf net and check my mail. Sometimes i also buy things via internet. Could anyone recommend me of any good personal firewall so that i can use to protect my data and personal information from any third party? If you're currently using, please advise me and also state the good and bad of the software.

Thank you very much.

Hope to hear from you soon.

I've used Nortons Personal Firewall as a part of Norton Internet Security for about a year, and I'm very happy with that solution. It's worked flawlessy all the time. The only bad part is that it can be a bit tricky configuration it perfectly the first time. But it's not that difficult after all.

I was originally using ZoneAlarm but it didn't like Cygwin so now I am using Sygate's Personal Firewall which is also free.

I've recommended Kerio Personal Firewall a number of times in these forums before:

http://www.kerio.com/us/kpf_home.html

Not for the average newbie, but extremely powerful. And free.

thanks for all the great recommendation.

I will go to their respective site and go thru it's info. has anyone heard about McAfee Personal Firewall? I would also consider looking into McAfee. I just want a good Firewall! :)

thanks... Please keep on contributing to this threads so that we can have a better recommendation and info to share among the CG fans.

i would say get a 50 dollar router and configure it to run in stealth mode. that should stop all the stupid port scans and bots. because you will be invisable to the ppl who dont know your there.

also is very usefull for routing xboxs together for halo games and adding extra computers to your network without perchasing and extra ip address from your provider.

this is all provided you use dsl or cable. not a good solution with dial up.

on a side not i use norton firewall and had a trojan loaded on my computer. i guess my little brother didnt quite understand what that was and let it pass through when he was alerted. it did get rejected in the other 5 users on the computer though.

I used Kerio for a little while but it would blue-screen my system at least once a week.

I downloaded kerio a couple of days ago and my computer has been useless. I'm trying to uninstall it at the moment.
