Hi,
This is my first post in the Max forums, and you seem like a pretty nice bunch, so hello all. I was hoping you might be able to shed some light on this.
I downloaded the Vray Free version for Max5 to give a bit of a test drive - but the installation instructions in the manual don't seem to mention all the details.
To quote the manual:
Manual installation
In order to install VRay manually you will need these files:
VRay40.dll
VRender40.dll
VRayNet40.dlu
VRSpawnServer.exe
vraydummy.max
These must be placed in the following directories:
MAXROOT\VRay40.dll
MAXROOT\plugins\VRender40.dll
MAXROOT\plugins\VRayNet40.dlu
MAXROOT\VRSpawnServer.exe
MAXROOT\vraydummy.max
where MAXROOT is your Max root directory. The 'plugins' directory can be any of the plugins directory included in your standard max plugins.ini file.
Note:The Basic package installation does not include VRSpawnServer.exe, vraydummy.max and VRayNet40.dlu
End Quote
The files I seem to have are:
libmmd.dll (root)
VRay40.dll (root)
VRender40.dlr (plugins)
Ive tried installing them where I've indicated as a guesstimate, but although I can get the Vray options in the render menu when I fire up Max, when I try to get a basic DOF effect to check it out, Max freezes up when a Vray info window appeared.
The system is : Max 5.1, Win 98 (could this be the problem? I can't seem to find any system requirements for Vray)
Sorry this is such a long post, but I wanted to get all the details in there.
Cheers! :)
