Why that would be the "forward assist" control! Either that or you are talking about the brass deflector(the little wedge-like protuberance directly behind the ejection port)
Nice model! Needs some work around the flash supressor, in fact, it has no flash supressor, but all in all, very nice.
The grip is not a stock component, you might want to change it a bit.
Also, the front sight is too thin.
Cool!

The mag that is out of the gun is too short. You only have it modeled up to the point in which the mag meets the "mag housing" on the gun body. Either way, looks good, I wish I would have modeled it.

Here is a pic I made displaying problem areas of your model:

Oh, and anyone undertaking the construction of an AR15/M16/M4 model should have a look at this diagram. These are complex weapons. I hope this helps:

If I were to pick anyhting that I would look to change it's the casings of the bullets. I don't know if it's because it's the only color in teh scene or what, but they seem a little bright. Perhaps its a lighting reflection, not sure, but beyond that I think it's a solid rendition. A few parts have some uniquness to them, butI still works extremely well. Superb job.

Yeah, I agree wildekyote.
I'm sorry if my posts about the problem areas came off sounding pretentious. After a quick re-read, I'd take it that way.
My only concern was if you where modeling this firearm for a professional project, that the details would be very important.
If this is a personal thing, I think the model is just fine.
Absolutely steller model, best one of these I've see so far.
