Looking for focused critique on modeling, anatomy, and overall impression. This is an excercise in efficient modeling of the entire figure. It was intentionally sculpted in this pose, instead of modeled symmetrically for rigging and animation. Except for the shorts, shirt logo, tattoo, and navel, all textures are procedural for now.

very very cool stuff !!
Things I see, thou ; right elbow should have a smoother ease into triceps, lefthand bracelet should get more gravity, and the lower edge of the pants should probably be sharper.

Get that done, and Bjorn Stronginthearm's your uncle. Or Bob.

Her musculs too big for woman. Even if she is bodiebuilder.

Hmm, i don't think her torso looks like a bodybuilder, she looks like she's working out... To me the calves are too bulky, and her right one looks smoother than her left one.

But wow great style, can we see a closup of the face?

Thanks for all the crits.
I'll post an update soon. All the input has been good though I do like her muscularity as it is, I've scaled down and smoothed the calves, worked the elbow/triceps interface, and worked on the shorts, though they still aren't entirely satisfactory yet.

She looks great :)

I think her legs and her belly button are just too big, I like the texture on her, But the hair is just too black, dosnt have any texture on it.

Good work, Keep it up :)

Updates to the arms, shorts, calves, bracelets. I decided the bulky bracelet wasn't working well and replaced it on the (her) left arm with thinner ones. I also reworked that inner elbow to make the muscles span the joint better.

I appreciate everyone's input.http://home.comcast.net/~royalwin/cgTalk_render2.jpg

I think the results you're getting from such a fairly simple mesh layout are phenominal. One issue I'm having with my own figure is that certain parts might be subdivided too much and could show up as artifacts during rendering.

Very well done, I'm a big fan of this piece. I'll agree with the comment about the right elbow though, it seems to come to a little too much of a point I think.

WOW, This model is executed very well, excellent job. I love how you managed to pull all those curves out, like the ones running through her legs, you can realy see it with your lighting, very well done.

as far as crit goes. I am not liking the shorts still as you mentioned above, they just dont look like they fit her and are to big, also the material on it looks way thick because of it looking bunched up when it hits her upper thigh rather than laying on top of her leg. on her right arm i dont mind the elbow, but the crease in her arm seems to get to close to the elbow if you knwo what i mean. Like where the arm bends on the inside of the arm, it just seems to crease in to far, do you see what i mean.

One last thing, have you tried a render were the bottom of her legs arent so blown out with light, it might look better the way it is, but i would like to see one that has a weaker light source on her lower legs.

But excelnet model i love the style you have going here, it is great and like i said i likle how you have realy shown the curves in the human body it is awesome. great job, cant wait to see an update. Peace

Thanks, Katon
I have been working a bit on the elbow crease, but mostly in trying to get it to look like flesh pressed together, but after your comment I agree that the crease penetrates too far, I'll address that. Though I was going for thinck, stiff, cuffed shorts, I agree that they are not yet very successful. The lighting on the legs was something I stumbled on by mistake, but I like the more graphic quality it gives the rendering, almost more of a pinup look, along with the subtle pinkish to tannish color shift in the skin as you move down the body. I have renderings with a more physical lighting scheme, and the advantage they have is showing of the curvature of the shins, calves, and the wrinkles at the back of her right ankle. I'll post my next update with a more conventional lighting scheme. I welcome any more opinions on that more graphic look.
Thanks again for taking the time to post.

Excellent work!

I really like her "just off realism" exaggerated style.

One thing does bothers me though, it's the anatomy of her right arm, structurally speaking something looks a bit odd!?. Her hair is covering that shoulder which makes making anatomical analysis difficult but it appears as if her shoulder is too high up or too close into her chest... or something. It could also be that the length of her right arm is, at least to me, significantly longer than her left. Just looking at the lengths of the upper arms and visually comparing the two seems to give this impression. But I could be wrong :).

Just my 2Bytes

Looooove the lighting!!! BTW

As opposed to grey clouds in the background you should put a purple velvet curtain and have her standing on a glossy black stage, that would be sweet. IMHO

Royalwin,

Very nice work. Can you post some wires without the clothes in the way (I know how that sounds folks, but the interest is professional :) ) unsmoothed and smoothed. I see what you meant by turning the edges around the limbs, very elegant. People have already sited the issues in proportion so I won't repeat that. I will say that I think she's a bit long in the leg still, but that's more an issue of style at this point. I'm a bit concerned about the structure, I see strange poles in the shoulder (teres muscle specifically), but as that this isn't for animation it may not be an issue. However, if you're using relaxing techniques for UV and paint (instead of sticking with procedural), it could be a problem (as I'm sure you're aware).

Ah nimajneb :)
I was waiting for a comment on my sloppy teres - just laziness there and a reliance on procedurals. Good catch I say! I'll post the smoothed and unsmoothed wires of the nude (there is no longer flesh where the shorts are now. I'm going to work a bit on the short left arm and then upload.

Very cool mesh, great attitude. I'd like to see more images - different angles, closeups.

Thanks shadowman!
I've done some changes but haven't posted in awhile. Since then I've worked on about 3 other characters and done some rigging and animation as well. Hopefully soon I'll get off my arse and post some more stuff! I've got a cartoon-proportioned cowboy with realistic textures, and another girl modeled based on a Danger Girl turn around with a lot of rigging on her. I'll post some stuff soon

Hey, I just noticed she has a tattoo on het leg!

Maybe make that a bit more visible...

royalwin
04-23-2004, 11:07 PM
Yeah!
It's pretty subtle, light hits it a bit differently, unsaturated colors. Just a little touch of a detail. I used to have it much more visible and I didn't like it. Perhaps the best would be something inbetween what it is now and what it was.

Thanks for the input Synkronizer and studiomaxer3d.

Actually the reference was a Spawn action figure whose abs I wanted to replicate in 3D. I created splines to setup the basic shapes then modeled the mesh to match them. I couldn't stop diddling with it so it slowly evolved into a full model. One of my collegues designed a T-shirt so I clothed her with his design, 3DCA stands for 3D Computer Animator in the AC/DC font. Cool stuff I thought. I'll post a couple WIP's from early on as well as the splines I used and the model I mentioned.

Here is the spawn figure, the Shane Glines drawing I used as inspiration while modeling the head and early version of the body and the head.

I really like the modelling, pose and overall comic look. The only crit I have is that I really don't like high heels on a more outdoor type of figure. When I look from top to bottom at the picture it goes like :"
nice head, nice body and arms. nice legs, although a bit long....... wtf ?! high heels ?!??"
Anyway, it's probably a matter of personal taste

This model is awesome...Great job.

The only thing that I noticed in the last post of yours is that the shoes seem to have a little too long of a toe on them. It may just be me, or it may be the angle that the last render was done at though. At any rate, nice work....Looking forward to seeing more of your stuff.

Thanks for the crit, Antrim.

Thought I'd toss up a couple images of some of the latest stuff. I've been playing a lot lately with procedural textures so all the textures were generated with procedurals, including the soccer ball, except for the cowboy, which as all photo -based.http://home.comcast.net/~royalwin/demon.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~royalwin/dg.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~royalwin/cowboy_nobrand.jpg

Those are looking cool, but it is a little hard to see. If you could post some renders that show off the models a little more.

I am liking the cowboy guy he is looking cool. Peace
