Okey Dokey here goes. I'm a Max user trying to transition to Maya, -WAIT, WAIT KEEP READING I COME IN PEACE- and I want to set the view panels to work like the "viewports" that I'm used to. I'd really appreciate any help from the more experienced Maya users I've seen while lurking endlessly on the CGtalk boards.
The deal is, Maya provides the front, side, top views generated by a default camera. I have set the view\ camera tools\ "tumble" option so I can have a non perspective user view from what ever panel I'm working in (like I'm used to in Max). The problem is that it actually changes the camera angle in whatever view I'm working in as well. The simple solution would be able to hit a hotbox button, or shelf button for right, left, top, bottom, front or back, have the panel named accordingly and re orient to that view.
So currently, if I'm working in the "side" view, and I tumble it, then I pick "side" again from the view panels, it's just the side view with the camera skewed. I can then press "default home" and get a side view again, but these are extra steps that kind of break away the work flow. I've also tried the "bookmarks" to get left, right, and bottom and back views, but the problem is the view port is still named top, side, or front no matter what, and it gets confusing. It would be great to have a panel named "right" or "left", for working in wireframe.
I'm wondering if there is a script, or if anyone knows of a way where I can make front, right, left, top, back and bottom views, that will always go back to their default orientation, and have the viewports labeled with the correct names, when a hotbox, hotkey, or shelf item is activated, in any panel. I tried making a simple script myself, but it will only work in the panel from which the commands were called, not all panels.
Thanks
