i want to add depht of field to an animation but there is the following problem:
i'm using a renderer which cannot extract the z-channel with the rpf file. as a workaround i rendered the main picture in a non rpf file and switched the renderer so i could save out rpf-files with the z-info. so there are two picture files, the main picture file and a rpf-file with the z-channel. how can i tell the depht of field operator to use the z-channel from the rpf file and apply the blurring to the mail file? (in Discreet Combustion or After Effects?)

you could use a compound channel arithmatec operator on the RPF layer to replace the RG & B channels with the layer you have rendered out separately, then just use the 3D Depth of Field operator.

Alternativley you can use a G-Buffer Channel extract operator to view the Z Buffer, then use that as the source for a Compound Blur on the colour layer. Theres a more in depth explanation in the Combustion section, just do a search for 'compound' or something

alternately you could also render your 3d project out in layers and then apply blur operators/effects to each individual layers in your compositing application and create your depth that way
