Hi,

How would you go about creating feet similar to the feet on this character. Would it be OK for them to be seperate objects so that when the character walks, the feet would probably intersect the body to some extent.

Or is it better to try to have them joined to the body as part of a single mesh and then sort out the weighting on the skin so that there is no overlapping?

Thanks.

I would say it depends.
As long as the feet are not deforming seperate objects are ok. But you have to skinn the lower body well to the leg bones or the feet will be flying around like in rayman.
I you combined the feet with the bodymesh and skinned them with a weight of 1.0 to the legbone you would get the same effect. It really depends on the body skin.

there is only one way i would do it... blend shapes on the body attached to the feet max/min movement with a "driven key" combined with some weights to control any unexpected movement you might encounter. thats talking maya of course i dont know what sofware you use... but there should be something similar in 3ds max and/or xsi... i dont know for the rest
