Hello all~ It's the first time I post here. This website are really cool. I love it very much :)

I want to buy a new computer these days~ The first choice of the cpu is the AMD Opteron DP 240 x2. I am in china now. It's very hard to by a 64bit cpu in such a small city like Kunming. And there is few information about this kind of cpu here. I just want to know more about this cpu. Any one can help me?

From the AMD official site. I also found the AMD Opteron DP 242. And how about this model? Does it have a really heigher speed than 240?

By the way: I mainly use the Maya 5.0 and 3DSmax 6.0 with Finalredner Stage-1. If I use 64bit CPUs to run these softwares in a 32bit system such as Windows 2000 or WindowsXP. Is there any problem? How about the rendering speed? If I use a Intle xeon system, which one is faster ?

Please give me a favor. I really need help now .Thank you so much!!
These days are Chinese New year. Happy new year to all guys here and sorry for my English : )

until a 64 bit operating system is released the 64 bit processors will act as if they are only 32 bit processors and will not cause any problems at all. here's a couple of links that will give you more information about the 64bit line of processors. http://peripherals.about.com/cs/buildyourpc/a/aa031215a.htm

also the opteron 240 is 1.4 ghz and the 242 model is 1.6ghz. hope this helps...

Thank you so much! I 've got the test file for Maya. I think DP 242s are good choice for me. :)
