View Full Version : How to cut two holes in a sphere? On top and side
Hexodam 01-24-2004, 04:38 AM I'm trying to create a sphere with two holes in it. Its easy on the top since there is circular edgeloops there, so just remove the faces and then you are done. On the sides it is a major problem since the edgeloops all run downwards.
How would you go about doing this?

Boolean subtract?

boolean works, but if I put meshsmooth on the sphere everything goes nuts because of the polygon distribution
fixing the verts might help ;)

I have an image that shows 4 basic steps on how to do this, I don't have anywhere to upload the image so if you would like it give me your email address and i'll send it to you
(i would have uploaded it to that new image upload page found in that thread in general discussions but the link doesn't work for me so no deal)

I think I sent you an email, used cgtalk thing to do it

after reading the theoretical subd thread (you should check it out), it seems the best way to do it is this.

on the left i chamfered a vertex, and on the right i removed the vertex.
you probably shouldn't use the pole as one of the holes to remove, because then the two spheres will have differing degrees of smoothness.
