View Full Version : To Boxx or not to Boxx
distres117 01-24-2004, 02:33 AM Here's the question....I have a budget of $2500 to independently produce animation for a short. I'm a relatively new maya user and not a hardware expert. I was attracted to Boxx for for conveniece mostly since I have neither the time or patience to troubleshoot. I'm looking to speak to someone, even by email who's had experience with this company and their hardware or I'm open tto other options aswell. Thanks in advance for any help.

What do you want to know?
Here's my experience: they are good quality although a bit careless with details; have very good support but can't solve their parts suppliers' problems (like Nvidia/PNY, Tyan...); they are very expensive since you pay for US-based manufacturing and support.
Best thing about them - they really care about their reputation in the 3d community. So if you bitch about them on this board they will do their best to solve your problem.

Compared to some other manufacturers out there who offer the same service, Boxx seems cheap to me. Of the other companies who's sites I've seen, Boxx seems like the most bang for your buck. So Boxx has a good reputation with the 3d industry? The most I've been able to dig up opinion wise has been on these forums, which have of course been a huge help. I don't know much about the industry, but I'd love to hear more thoughts on this subject. Thank you dvornik!

It certainly doesn't seem cheap to me. If you searched this forum (and highend3d) you could see all I had to say about them. I would recommend them overall. Their reputation is pretty solid, no doubt. It doesn't mean you won't have any problems or anything.

Do you already own Maya?

All these comments are very helpful to me, thanks. I've read lots of "I've heards" on this on and other sites but nothing along the lines of "yes, I have one and I think ______" Does anyone own/work with one? Even mundane details about the hardware are helpful. Thanks.

Note that Boxx has addressed most of my and other people's negative comments since they were posted.
