You need to dig deeper. Use the reflection sphere and put an image into it. Thoes icons are right next to the chrome eniroment.

I tried all things that i could think of but what are you talking about. I have only been using maya for a fairly short time. I am still in high school and i wanted to figure out this for a project as i said. It is really strange doing this because my teacher doesnt know how to do this since he does more lightwave things.

If you're using the Maya renderer, first put a blinn or phong on your object and give it some relfectivity, then you hae to make sure that raytracing is turned ON in the render globals or the renederer wont calculate reflections.

That won't work. He's trying to get a reflection map, not raytrace reflections.
Add a blinn shader and assign it to your object. Go to the "reflected color" attribute and click on the checkboard icon next to it. The "Create Render Node" window should pop up, and then scroll down under the "Texture" tab. Under the sub-tab "Enviorment Textures" you will find "Env Sphere." Click on that. Now click on the checkboard icon next to the "Image" attribute chanel for that "Env Sphere." Add a "File" node and then pick what image toy want.
Make sure that the blinn shader has some relfectivity value. Now you should have a relfection texture on your objects.
