View Full Version : Dual TFT monitor
grury 01-23-2004, 01:30 PM Hi all, I hope anyone can help me, am planning to swap my old monitor for a 17" TFT monitor, but was looking for something that i can connect both my desktop and my notebook (at same time), so i found this rather cheap Acer (http://www.dabs.com/uk/channels/hardware/monitorsanddisplays/productView.htm?quicklinx=2WZQ), which says Dual, I searched for more info on the net couldnt quite figure out if the Dual actually means Analogue and Digital input...Any ideas
Thanks in advance,
Grury

Acer's home site woul dhave been a good place to start.
Here's the tech sheet for your monitor.
http://www.acer.co.uk/acereuro/page9.do?dau34.oid=4115&UserCtxParam=0&GroupCtxParam=0&dctx1=17&ctx1=UK&crc=2592464634
It says that it support analogue (D-sub) and DVI, so I guess it has both inputs.
Hope that answered your question...

Cheers Jhavna, I did go check that tech sheet, but my doubt was more about being able to connect both computers to the same monitor at the same time, on a Dual CRT monitor for exemple there will be to imputs for 2 diffrent pc's, so I wonder whow does it work on that Acer monitor...will one connect to the DVI and another to the Analogue port?? and how do you switch between both?
Sorry but I dont have a clue...

AHhh in that case you'll need a switch box. Basically the dual ins on the monitor are just there so you have a choice of what to use. I severly doubt you can connect two PCs at the same time.
Essentially, the switch box allows you to plug two inputs in and it provides one output, which can switch between by pressing a button (or some boxes allow hotkeys)
Something like this (they have more.. this is just an example..) http://www.redstore.com/fx/techinfo.php?itm_code=OEMACC042
You can get switchers for just video, but I'm not sure where from
I have both the analogue input and DVI on my monitor (CRT though). I can use both as I have a toggle switch on the front to change between the two inputs. :)
...so it can be done... but everything is different.
So... perhaps go and see one in a shop? look like an interested customer, check it out, then go order it on-line for cheaper. :)
