I'm looking for all kind of texturing and painting tutorials - i allready checked the sticky on the top - but there's nothing what i'm looking for ...

i'm mainly looking for texturing uvw maps in photoshop or paintshop (organic (plant texturing, human body texturing tutorials or walktroughs), non organic (metals, stones, woods, fabric) tutorials or walktroughs (for example aircraft/car/tank texturing, robot texturing, weapon texturing, house/scene texturing))

i hope somebody can help me with some links, since i'm allready searching like 2 weeks for good tutorials now and just found very less good/usefull stuff - thanks

btw, i'm also looking for good books - so if you know a good book about the above listed stuff, PLEASE tell me

Have you checked Highend3d.com? Gnomon sells DVDs of their Texture 1 and Texture 2 classses as well. There's a book called "Digital texturing and painting" from New Riders Press. It's not the best, but has some fun stuff. Sounds like you're looking for some specific surface tutorials. the thing to do is become familiar with the surface that you are trying to replicate. Analyze it. So like "robot" isnt enough. You'd need to determine what type of metal you want. How much damage? How shiny. Find actual materials for what you want so that you can touch them and look at them. Don't make stuff up out of your head without ref or it will look fake. Making specular maps helps a lot with a variety of surfaces. A big thing to remember is that any seams always have some dirt or such. Look arouund the room you're in as you read this and look at corners of anything and you'll see that usually theyre not perfectly clear.

There are also a numbber of places online that have free textures. These are good places to grab a source photo that you can then layer in photoshop and paint on top of. A couple of high res sites:

http://www.mayang.com/textures/

http://www.animax.it/animax/Textures.htm

Depending on where you live, you might take a class as well. Eni Oken is a good teacher. She's at Gnomon but also does some courses online.

http://www.oken3d.com/index2.html

BArring all of that, you're welcome to ask me questions here. I have not messed with polys, but can help with NURBS or just general texture painting and photoshop questions.

Hope some of this helps,

-Matt

The Gnomon classes are for Maya. Eni Oken uses mostly photoshop. If you just wanna learn photoshop there are probably a hundred different books and hundreds of tutorials online. Everyone uses it, so there's a lot of info out there.

Best,

-Matt

yes, but there are no workshop for specific szenes (lets say "house texturing" with titleable textures, dirt layers and so on - or skinning a plane, a tank, a ship, a island and so on ... you know, workshops where you learn everything step by step

i'm just finding allways stuff like "how to make rusty text" (and all the other effects) - i know i can use that for tanks, planes, houses and everything else - but it would be much easyer if there would be real workshops ...
