When I delete an edge in Maya, the vertices remain and I would have to delete them manually. Is there a setting where vertices gets deleted automatically as I delete the edges?
Also, my head model is getting complicated and I find lone vertices everywhere even though I don't remember ever putting them there. Is there a way Maya can point out where all these "floating" vertices are so I don't have to find them myself?

Use the Delete Edge command under Edit Polygons and not the delete key, otherwise you will have all sorts of vertices left over. There is also Delete Vertex for those stubbor vertices that just won't go away with a simple delete.

Actually, thank to those stubbor verticles which don't want to get deleted, you can usually just select all the verticles in your model, then just press delete and all the leftover verticles should get deleted, and verticles with "complex geometry" remain... brilliant! (That's one usefull smiley :D)
