what is the size of a high res texture map? 512, 1024 etc.? i'm using 1024 files but when i get close (ex. close up, of a pouch on a jacket) the texture seems to be pixelated. can i get rid of this, any suggestions? maybe i'm doing something wrong in photoshop?

are you talking game textures?

i'd like the textures to be t.v quality (it's a short animation, to be viewed on a t.v)

Increase texture size for the pouch.

Idealy it is best to have a clear concept or storyboard outlining how this character is going to be used, then design according to that. How close does the camera ever get? How close to which parts? The face? The foot?

Sometimes it helps to make a "hero" foot or whichever part needs a particular closeup, so you don't have an ultra-high-res foot in all the rest of your regular shots.

A couple thoughts.
