Hi,

is it possible that LW 7.5c renders much faster than 7.5?

I've build up a new workstation (P4 3 GHz / 2 GB RAM) and thought it is time to give 7.5c a chance after the desaster of my last try with 7.5b, which was very unstable. So I did the update and was very impressed by the rendering speed.
But it is very unstable too. I had many crashes, even freezes of W2K pro. Mostly on exiting the Layouter. I've search some forums and found that others had also the problems, and there seems to be no solution. So I decided to downgrade to 7.5 again. Now it works much more stable. But it seems that the render speed is much slower. Is this possible? Has Newtek did some speedoptimations to the renderengine of 7.5c? Anyone an idea to get 7.5c more stable?

Regards

Tim

I never tried 7.5c after hearing of the unstableness. I gathered that the 7.5b and 7.5c were the new dev teams first attempt to update the Lightwave code. I think at this point the best way to increase the stability of 7.5c is to wait for 8.

Cheers,
JS

Thanks JS, you are right, this seems to be the only way. But I also wonder that some people seems to have no problems with 7.5c.

Sorry, hadn't noticed much of a speed difference, though I have been working on LARGE renders myself. btw, no stability problems here on WinXP.

It has annoying issues in terms of panels opening with the wrong settings shown, etc., but it has been relatively stable. The real issue is that there is, for me at least, real confusion over which Modeler LScripts would break were I to downgrade. It's just not clear to me and in the middle of the project, I'm opting to sit on 7.5c and just fire in bug reports to NT when I discover issues.

I was hoping for a 7.5d, but if NT can fire up a bugs fixed list, I might head for 8.0 before I the usual 6 month shakeout of issues has elapsed :)
