Love it too ! post a link to the anim...
The closes up are really nice. I would make the legs more complex, a part from that it's really cool. Love the grey ambient too.

Thanx guys!
I still working on animation...
Unfortunatly i dont have a room on any http or ftp servers, so i cant poste that animation.

Wow! Excellent... very nice!
How do you get the ground to blend with the background?
Do you match the ground to the backgrounds's gradient color or is there another trick to do it?
Nebelis
06-25-2002, 10:15 AM
:D me like. I think though that just the flint in th lightbulb has to look like it's "on fire" but that's just me. other than that I like the design.

06-25-2002, 11:43 AM
interesting, are the lights some kind of weapon?
Eugeny

How do you get the ground to blend with the background?
OK its a gradient texture on transperancy, turned to "Distans to camera" mode.
interesting, are the lights some kind of weapon?
Actually no, but robots going some fight one with other and after one of them falling on the ground he breack the arm lamps (like bottles) and going to cut the other one.
Eugeny, you've got to get this online somehow!
It looks VERY cool!
We have MediaCleanerPro5 to make a nice small-rez version when it's done if you want...
Eugeny
06-25-2002, 03:50 PM
Thanx a lot Cman, but my problem is the http or ftp room - i just dont have it. As for MediaCleaner Pro5 - i have this baby too.
And i still work on animation.

Here some old imaje of lamps (this from the challenge)
barryria
06-26-2002, 11:10 AM
it's very good design for the robots!!!!
do u mind telling me how long to make one render?
and what's the setting for the surface of lightbulb
it's very real glass look of transparency
i cant make such transparency
thank you for your sharings!
Eugeny
06-26-2002, 11:50 AM
Thanx Barryria :)
I used the Backdrop only mode for radiosity, and some gradient on the backdrop. Depend of distans to camera one frame was taken from 40 min - for closeups to 3-5 minutes for long shots.
I use the Raytrace optimesation option, in this scenes its really halp to reduse render time. Bdw the last one (old imaje) was rendered on 2 hours ( i work on dual P III 800 512RAM).
As for lightbulb i use the method deskribed by Bill Flemming - air layer.
I send u the surfaces - just load this on Surface editor.

What?
Why did you post in the LW forum. Nobody comes here. Its just a LW discussion forum. People only come here for technical advice or tutorials.
I think you should ask the admins to move you to the WIP or Gallery forums in the Critiques section. You'd get more hits.
Thanks for the glass preset.
I'd still love to see the animation. It looks like "Luxo Jr." meets "Gladiator"!!!

That's a really beautiful design. Looks great. Very elegant.

06-28-2002, 02:00 AM
ok, let me rephrase that last post:
Hey Whazzup?
Good thing you posted here. Nobody looks at the WIP sectuion anymore. I just looked - you're right. So many threads, so few hits.
Don't tell the admins or they'll move you to the WIP or Gallery forum. You'd get less hits.
;)
regards to everyone at Adventure.

Ok here anther set of frames and wirframe.
Think that light of Big Lamp is not so good but i like the lighting effect on Robot.
Facial Deluxe
06-28-2002, 04:19 PM
Wow, strange ! Is the big bulb absorbing the lamp robot ? Kind of symbiothic relationship ... Don't be to rude I think the lamp is nice, what do you want to modify ?

06-28-2002, 09:31 PM
I love It
It would be cool to see the two robots fighting, just using their light bulbs. You know flashing each other to death.;)

Facial Deluxe - the big lamp is the final scene Robot will use this lamp iinstead broken (after fight) one :)

" May the One with the most Watt win "
Yes something like that.
im sorry..even though these pictures show some excellant modeling and rendering skills this robot design very closely resembles a design by another artist, unfortunately his name passes me by at the moment
but great work none the less

The design of the legs is from some desk lemp...
Also the maine idea of design was desk lamp (i just splited the leg, and added some lights hands).
Can u finde the design of robot what remind my design ?
Thanx.
Eugeny.

06-29-2002, 02:46 PM
Am' I wrong or u didn't model the light wthi lathe
which tool instead?:curious:
Eugeny
06-29-2002, 03:31 PM
The lamps was modeled with lathe tool. The lamp groove - some point and poligon manipulation after extruding along helix - If I have correctly understood your question.
Carlocki
06-29-2002, 04:49 PM
yes right aswer
but the wireframe reveals something like a triple on the glass surface of the lamp right?
Eugeny
06-29-2002, 05:49 PM
Right - becouse the lamp on subpatch 3 (in this picture) and robot on 0.
If u use 7.5, sub patth 0 on layout appear like unsubpatched cage - very useful.
Bdw. u can edit your replay after sending, just press edit botton :)

You should change your avatar to the light-bot... your current avatar bugs me... not in a good way.
But the scene look great. How long are renders taking?

Eugeny
07-30-2002, 06:58 PM
The last one 6 min but close ups - 5-6 hours with motion blur...
As for avatar - i love this stile :)
Facial Deluxe
07-31-2002, 08:20 AM
5-6 hours ? Aaaaargh ! Guess the anim is still rendering then...
When will it show up ?
Eugeny
07-31-2002, 08:51 AM
I have 3 complited scenes... The problem what i don't have any server room to appload. And yes last scene take 2 weks to render on 4 processors :hmm:
Looks brilliant:thumbsup: Like everyone else, I'd love to watch the animation....

nifty little robots.
They are fairly realistic and they look neat, but they don't look like they are designed to do anything. What are they supposed to be?

Thats what i think very often, I'm still a newbie, but its not easy to keep going for it when you see so much great pics.
Then you see how worse your own pics are. But for You Eugeny, I would be very happy when I could be as good as you...

problem Is I'm affraid of asking questions because otherwise ppl will laugh at me, or direct me to a tutorial, so it always stays the same.
I now am trying to use LW to texture, made an uv map for one of my models, and am now trying to understand all the maps I need and what they are used for like colour map, bump map,....
hope i can understand it because otherwise all my work was of no use

And sometimes pointing on tutorial is not so bad - may be u will be pointed to some tutorial that u don't know...

Hey wozz,
It's easy to get frustrated when you're learning something as complicated as a 3D application. With most programs, you spend a couple of weeks and you're up to speed. I dedicated myself to really learning Lightwave and it took about a year just to get really comfortable with Modeler. Don't give up. And don't hesitate to ask. One of the things that makes Lightwave great is its user base. There are a lot of people here on this board willing to help.
Keep at it, and one day you'll be helping other newbies with their questions. :)
Take care,
Steve
congratulations!
nice pictures Eugeny!
sorry for joining in so late but those renders are really good Eu

I think everything about it is top notch...the only thing I don't care for is the legs....the don't seem to fit with the rest of teh bot...that's only my opinion....I see this going in the LW gallery if it's sent in....
Eugeny
09-06-2002, 05:24 PM
Thanx Proton :)
About the legs... hmm i was changed the size of rubber pumps (i don't know better name for this parts in English) in past
As for Newtek gallery - i saw some works from our ex member Tal Flint posted in LW gallery - really talented boy!
Did u really think that my robots good enough to be posted in LW gallery?
DigitalDeuce
09-06-2002, 05:29 PM
I'll respond with an affirmative.
It's really really good.
I agree, they should be in the Gallery!
I like the legs. They're very aggressive and animalistic.
Still want to see the animation!! :applause:
Eugeny
09-06-2002, 06:07 PM
Thanx guys :bounce:
I'll send some images to Newtek...

Sorry guys it's on geocities( hope i done all in right order)
I'll post some mirrors later.
Some notes about animation:
it's still "under construction" , i trying to change timing and camera position , i'm not really sure about top view scene - its mast be maaaaaaach more slow...
Have fun and feel free to get me some feedback's

Just way cool.
The only thing that I saw was there wasn't much weight shift in the walking.
Little nitpickin
Good job.
Eugeny
09-07-2002, 09:08 AM
Thanx :)
The problem that that robot is actually desk lamp so his size is something about 40-50 cm in high and mass 1-2 Kg :)
And damn rerender walking cycle - it's pain for me - it's took two weeks render on 4 processors :annoyed:
... but u are right i'll check this
DigitalDeuce
09-07-2002, 01:48 PM
Looked like to me, if you're using IK for his legs anyway, just shift his hips a little more left and right, not much needed, but I always see weight shift in walks.
Seriously though, that's just me pickin-nits.
Really good job.

Chagidiel
01-28-2003, 11:58 AM
Darn! Canīt get the anims down yet... guess the second server is broken as well
Cool work (as seen from the stills) anyway! Great shading! Agree with the rest of the posse about the lack of detail on the legs though, but you might be working on that?
Also... I think that the remark about resemblence (by "chi") earlier is referring to Dave Wilsonīs "Seth". http://www.3dluvr.com/davewilson/
However... though I might agree on some basic design resemblence your creation is definitly on its own. (...and by the way, there is nothing wrong with inspiration)
Why do I think this smiley is appropriate on this thread? :lightbulb

Thanx guys ...
Yes the Dave Wilson work remind my work (or will be more correct that my work remind work of Dave Wilson) - i don't have anything to say on this - the both works remind each other like Mercedes an Toyota ... There is some same whole line but different details
Chagidiel - i already checked the links - last ones (Quick Time and AVI loads really well - i get 63 k with my 64 k ADSL) ...
Anyway if it's not working for u here is new one from geocities Light Robots (http://www.geocities.com/chuchae2002/Robots/Robots_01_DivX3.avi)
Deluxe - unfortunately i'm too busy (working on 2 jobs at the same time - money talk ...) to finish this work ... :(
Waw Eugeny, incredible modeling and surfacing.
GOood job ;D

01-29-2003, 12:47 AM
Wohah! Thanks for the new link :)
It worked now. Spectacular lighting! Very grasping mood with only the characters themselves lighting the whole scene.
The animation might need some tweaking, but overall well done I must say :) Anims with mechanics like these babies benefits (almost require) alot from adding sound.
Anticipating the complete version!

I'm decided to finish up my industrial design studies (Ba Des.) at Bezalel (http://www.bezalel.ac.il/sitee/homepage.asp) that i left 5 years ago (just realized that 3D animation is mach interesting for me then product design).
So i working on my graduating project right now - a light robot design :)
The maine idea is to make desk lamp - light robot for kids (or adult kids) that can not only lit the light but also can be playable toy. I needed to completely redesign the robot and for final presentation i'll make short animation that mast to tell for the user (kid) about the prehistory of that robot.
Here is the concept sketch

And the untextured model

I've seen your works and animation... the lightbulbs modeling and light effect is good. Animation interesting thru. However I have some suggestions about the leg structure...
It seems that the legs are too much primitives, it is just like the booleans of the primitives without doing fillets.. And I see that the legs movement is just moving the joints, without any mechanical structures that drive the movements, like springs, hydraulic joints, etc. I have a table lamps that similar to your robot structures, but it has springs structures to maintain the shape.
I am working on my robot too, well I take some reference about the joints of some construction machines.
