How do you create High Resolution Textures? "as they say practice makes perfect" How do you define High Resolution Textures?

Is It the settings and the file format that they are saved in, that form part of the quality of the Image. apart from the quality of the Image of course.

I have been doing some tutorials, I think the images are all right but there is a niggling doubt in the back of my mind, comments please

Do you know of any Advanced Photoshop tutorials for High Resolution textures, your help is appreciated...cheers

hmm....well i'd say high resolution would be textures that enable the model to be reproduced at print res (300 dpi) at a decent size (a4?)....that doesnt mean the textures need to be huge, just big enough to not look "low res".

so basically i think its subjective and down to the individual. If it works and suits its purpose, how can u knock it.

As for file formats, anything that retains a very close representation should suffice, intricate detail can be lost in even jpeg maximum 12, so i tend to stay away from that format if thats the case and use TIFF.

Also be careful, when working on your texture, to save it in the .psd format or at least another non-compressed format such as bitmaps, as you are working with it.

Ive seen people in the past work, whereby they save as jpg then resave the jpg over and over as they add to it. Each time of course its getting compressed even maybe just a little. But after serveral saves, its totally lost the original quality.
