Currently i have a Sony Vaio Intel Pentium III 750 mhz, 128 mbram (will make it 256 mb soon).

I'm not sure if this will run "smooth" , as my videocard is a 8MB S3 Savage chip.

I haven't tried running Maya on it... maybe i won't be able to run it at all (because of my specs.

as long as your laptop has at least a GeForce2 GO you should be fine.... you need a 3D capable video chip...

but i've seen people running Maya on PII400MHz, so if your laptop is relatively recent, you should be golden

In the last two months i followed a course about Maya, i used to run the program on a laptop (PIII 1,2Ghz, 512Mb and Ati 3d Chip) even if the ati card suffered a bit, unless you build up heavy scenes (i used to work with external references and then stick all the parts together for the final renders) the laptop is capable to assume the work.
Hope this helped.

See you.

it's working for me, but only the crappy vid card, savagemx, is a little pain in the ass every now and then

dude, i got a dell... lol

pIII 700Mhz, 256RAM, 32MB ATI Rage.

It runs okay, but let me tell you, if you get into some heavy stuff, the memory usage will sometimes jump to about 125 or so and you'll feel it slow down drastically. Most of the time, though, no problems at all.

I got this computer a year ago, so I'm sure you could get something that really kicks butt now, so as long as price doesn't matter to you, then look around and you'll find something good.

Dual 1GHZ Pentium III

128MB ATI Radeon 8500
Dual 40GB Seagate Barracuda
Windows XP Professional

and i built it all with my bare hands... (well, i used screwdrivers and what not)
