love the style. though there were a few quirks, i enjoyed the animation also.
That's one expressive looking face! I really like the style. It looks like he's had one Cognac too much though :D

I really love it ! What software app ?
I'm not sure of what I see, is there some "soft-body" deformations on the skin as well as on the clothes ?
The texturing looks fantastic, could you post something less compressed ?

Hi thank you very much for your comments:thumbsup:
I used maya, yes i have used soft-body deformations so his face hangs down and under his chin, still needs a bit off work to get it looking right i think.
here's a higher res shot of fred, but im not to happy with the textures, i'm going to do then again some time i think.

This is a female character based on the same kind of design as Fred, this model did have hair but it don't look right at the moment so i left it out of these pics:wavey:

o and also used soft-body deformations on this one, so the ears flop down and move about when the head moves:)

Did you render this in Maya as well? Use any special techniques?
I've never seen a render of this quality with the standard Maya renderer.
Amazing work.

Thats freaky man, but good!
though the face is a litle too red i think, even if you're going for a character/creature like that, but its still a weeeee bit scary and nonrealistic...i think ppl will disagree...my opinion only:shrug:
anyway, keep up the good modeling:cool:

wow thanks again to everyone for your comments
In answer to alphatron, yes i used mayas standard renderer, the lighting is pretty simple really. I just used the GI_Joe script which you can get from www.highend3d.com and just a few point lights and the shader is just a basic shader, i'm not that good with building shaders yet. :annoyed:
Their are some poeple that do amazing work with the maya renderer, check out the artist Robert Kuczera on the highend3d gallery he does amazing work with the maya renderer. also there's a free scene on my website you might want to download
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/julian/manhead1.ace
i've attached a picture of it, that uses pretty much same lighting and shader as the fred scene.
to fellipe thx for that about my textures, i've been looking at some other people's posts on here with their textures, and they put mine to shame i think, going to work on improveing them:)
to igor popovic, yes your right is a bit to red, i'm going to do a animation with those 2 characters when i do i'll tone them down a bit and and i'll give them both have hair as well :)

I like your work, but this CG has been the first of its kind that disturbed me, I guess it is the burned flesh tone. Call me a wimp , but it did bother me, it has nothing to do with your texturing or modeling.

Yes, If your modeling and texturing can bring out the emotions in people, then you are doing an excellent job. Yes it was a complement. Good work.

De-evolution, that’s all I think of. Those first characters look like they are caught between man and ape. It’s funny because when I finish my current project I am going to do a human transforming to ape and vice-versa. Render looks cool. Are you doing that through a translucency map? If so it always sucks having to roto a matte....el diablo

5 stars !!!
can you show a wireframe?
 Fantastic renders. How do you do that?
Nice to see someone with such a distinct style. You are a master of the grotesque:thumbsup:

Very well done.
In my mind they are just a bit to shiny, it gives them more a plastic feeling (although they look very "realistic").
I would die to see some Wireframe Shots and the Texture. :bounce:
Hey, really good expression!
They look a bit like the WHO's from The Grinch.

Since everybody already said there Bravos, amazings, and five stars...i'll go with a critique.
I definitly think that the specular map ( Is there any?) is a bit off.
The character's spec map looks like plastic to me.
altought your Color and bump map is wonderful.
About the animation: It feels very weird, the way the skin is "Sliding" and moving along the face, it looks fake, too slow,
too "bluby"...whatever.
Great work man!!!
VERY ORIGINAL STYLE!!!!!

That's a common problem: how to critisize a work of a fictional character. You can't use "real" standards on the one hand, but it has to look real in it's own way on the other.
The muscles of Fred give a soft and fluid impression but in its own way it looks real. You can't tell whether this kind of creatures have same anatomical preconditions like human or animals.
Just compare some Dragon animations in movies. Everyone has it own properties in animation and skin deformation.
As a conclusion i would say that the fred anim looks different, but i like the soft blurry style of animation and i think that it fits to the character as well.

I keep coming back to this. I love the translucent qualities of the skin. Makes it look almost disgusting. Excellent work!

Can I ask how you got the skin looking so nice? Did you use any fake subsurface or anything or is it all down to textures and lighting?

Hi sorry for taking a while to reply playmesumch00ns, I did not really do anything special. but I did use the subSurfIllum mel script, which you can get off highend3d. also theres a free scene of a head model on my site which uses the same kind of lighting if you would like to check it out.
