This is a quick painting I did this afternoon when I should have been working. It was done in Photoshop 7 in about 2 hours. Partly inspired by that long thread about cgchicks hehe!

Wonderful as usual. I tend to like the rough paintings more than high polished look. Now get back to work! :p

That's real talent bro.

I like the way her structure and eye expression are so real. The most difficult thing in painting is capturing subtle human expressions. extreme human expressions are always easy. the subtle ones are the challenge.

This is real.

kudos to you for avoiding the "slutty hot asian chick" stereotype and still maintaining a beautiful image. i kind of passed by it at first, but the more i look at this painting, the deeper it absorbs me. i really like the subtle lighting of the background.

Thanks for the comments! Appreciate the support.

Darkefire, thanks I did want to avoid a gratuitous T&A type image for sure.

Dmitry, I used some photoreference for the woman, and I think I have a low res rust texture underneath the painting to help generate some noise.

unbelieveable. 2 hours!! amazing stuff.

the proportions seem a bit off to me. maybe the waist is a little too small compared to the bradness of her upper torso and shoulders?

incredible all the same. congrat's on a very nice piece and the fp plug.

Well, she's very life like.....nice painting around her face...I wish you'd carried the same intensity to her body and background wall.

She also looks little wistful. What up with that?

Woops! Thanks for the additional comments and the front page thing! I was in LA this weekend doing a bit of research.

zemotion - thanks, and thx for the gfxartist props too. Yes I bet she is Chinese...

riddick - thank you; yes, it was quick - i worked mainly on the face and stopped as soon as that was rendered. There are a lot of things I can still go back and improve.

stealth pharaoh - thank you.

vidar3D - thank you every much, I appreciate that a lot!

slurry - yeah, definitely true - the body porportions did not really get the right attention.

phoenix, rukawa, apex, garma, is-boset, ahmed c-man - thanks very much for the comments!

chris - thank you, I am very glad you think so. It's been a while since we were in the trenches together, hope all is well with you! I am a concept artist at Sammy Studios these days. Lots of opportunity to work on drawing and painting..

terrestrial sea - cool! I love Dido. But I don't drink, so maybe some nice oolong tea.

torquesmacky, speedhorse - thank you very much.

Ed Lee - thanks, I may go back to do that and make this a more finished piece. No real story with the expression - I've been gathering a lot of photoreference of facial expressions recently, and most of them are of people grimacing or screaming. I found a couple that were much more subdued and interesting, and wanted to try that as a different challenge. Probably also why the rest of the image looks unfinished and not as well planned.

mtmtmt - thanks, glad that worked for you like that.

jayreef, sicco, kel solaar - thanks! sicco, I don't know if I have that kind of patience!

I enjoy the painterly feel of this, my only problems are with the forearms being obscured and the legs joining the body a bit too high on the pelvis.

Hey man.. Do you really think your stuff is good? What do you call that!? Asian Girl? Better think properly before posting your picture again..my son.

wow, mother mary, you need to check your attitude at the door. That was completely unnecessary (you should also maybe try and rethink your name since i dont think mother mary wouldve been very appreciative of your comment.) why do you have to be so condescending? Well i hope your attitude becomes more positive in the future, remember "constructive crits" not "you suck", that doesnt help anything except make every one think your a jerk.

Oh my pathetic child..you are blind and you are almost deaf, what is your Mother Mary in your heart, is it what you understand shall means truth? Then who is your Mother Mary? your Mother? Your Father? Your husband? Come on, face the truth man, Work out your brain, stop following the conventions, do you think what others says about justice and you just blindly follow? can't you think for yourself? If you do not have yourself so your existence is meaningless.
You are just a victim of the society, don't give others what you have suffer before, wake up my son, don't be so negetive, be more positve. so you can't understand what is my "constructive crits" is because you are blind and deaf, luckily you still can shout, still can be save, let me save you, I don't mind to have another jerk as my son.
keep praising me.

I have been studying art in school lately and this is a very good representation of modern art with subtle hints of impressionism. Very well done, I wouldn't change a thing, as a matter of fact I'd cosider hanging this painting in my own home for it's simple beauty and artistic qualities.

I don't know enough photoshop to do anything worthy enough to post, and from what I've seen in the CG Talk forum, there are art masters here.

She has a great expression...shows a deep sadness through her eyes, looks like a real human feeling.
