hi there!

well i'm looking forward to purchase Maya in some time (these days using cinema4d)...so i had a look at the differences between complete and unlimited at A|W's homepage....

now it's not clear to me if the subD  tools are included in the 'complete' version as well as in the 'unlimited' version  ....and if they're not included in 'complete', is it possible to buy them extra.....'coz it's a pretty difference in price when you just need the subd tools and not necessarily the fur, cloth and so on tools too....

and if there's perhaps a bit lower price for students, without limitations to prog issues...

hope someone can help me :) ...thanks girls/guys

Subdivision surfaces are not part of complete. I'm not sure if you can buy them separatly or not, but you can use the connect poly shape scripts to emulate a subD workflow similar to other packages. If you want the true subD's with the hiearchy editing and all that hooplah you'll have to get unlinited.

There is an educational version of maya that is not crippled. You can buy it from www.journeyed.com. Complete is $495 and unlimited is $695. The only limitation is that you can't use it for commercial purposes(it's a scout's honor thing). Also maya 4.5/5 is going to have a poly proxy built in(similar to cps).

SubD's are not available separate. That's the strongest reason for buying unlimited IMO.

adding on to beaker's post:

the student version of Maya only lasts 1 year.
