I've animated my character in a 25 second dialogue to test out the facial setup. please forgive the lack of body and arms, this is just meant to be head and a hand.

download the 1.1 meg video here:

and let me know what you think.

Very nice, the timing was a tiny bit off in places, but the expressions and movements were excelent. Good Work:thumbsup:

I think the nose is too stiff...

Its really good! I think the animation might be a bit too "snappy" but maybe you are going for that look. It a bit like a stage actor would act, very big and clean, movie acting usually is more subtle then stage. What is it for, selfpromotion or is it a short movie in the making????

Intrigued -----> :)

the only part that bugged me was so minor, it was the cup when he was drinking from it. Didn't look like it went up far enough.

Other than that... :applause:

That looked really good! What you might try to improve on is the ease in/out between the different poses. It does seem to snap unnaturally sometimes, as if your function curves had kinks in them. The facial expressions are really cool though!

towards the middle the lips don't quite sync up with the sound... that's my only critique though

Something looked odd to me on the "f" sounds. Other than that, the expressions looked great!

Donīt know, but the face doesnīt seem real to me. I canīt point out why ( textures, expression, mimic, geometry) just donīt know. But actually I also donīt understand why everybody who models a head allways wants to make him talk realistic. I just modeled my first head ever and I want to animate it too, but more subtile, no big emotionchanges. In my opinionthe human face is capable of so many different shapes that you would need thousands of shapes to achive realistic movement. So I would like to first see a 3d modeled head just doing nothing but breathing and looking around. And tell you it probably takes 50 shapes just to animate a realistic face doing nothing but breathing. Think about it

great work. I had to download as it the direct stream route mad ethe dialogue several frames ahead of the animation but once i played off the driver, the timing synched backed up. Nice animation. Some of the muscle definition was a bit harsh but wasn't so bad.

MrWyatt i dont know if u have an asthma attack when ur breathing, but when i am, the only thing i can think of that changes facially is a slight vacuum in my mouth causing my cheeks to move in and out, but very slightly. as for looking around, a blink cycle...

Itīs true, I do have asthma but thatīs not what I meant when I talked about subtile animation. look in the mirror and see all the tiny movments in your face, when you swallow as an example or the little areas around the eyes sometimes they tremble a bit, the nose too, there is movement in your nose when your breathing. you might not see it on first sight but itīs there and thatīs what makes it belivable.thatīs what is realistic. everything moves in a human face even when we think that it doesnīt, I donīt talk about cartoonish overacting when i talk about subtile animation. so i would appreciate not to be dissed around for trying to bring up new ideas to cg-animation. thanx:shame:

hehe, very cool, I especially liked the part where he goes like: "Shh! no!" :applause:

And MrWyatt, u've got a good point there, but the skills and animation time that accompanies that is probably enourmous, but I'd like to see what u can achieve with your head;) Keep us posted.

Mr Wyatt, do you mean breathing as just a idle face looking around, swallowing, breathing in,slightly change the emotion in the face, breathe out kinda thing? In that case I go for your 50 shapes but for just breathing that sounds a bit too much...

lude and AroundTheFur: How many completely convincing human facial animations have you seen? The person most likely to do so would be a person trained in human behavior, sociology (sp?), AND animation principles...and/or incredibly talented Not to mention have an incredible facial setup that deforms realisticly. I think MrWyatt understands the complexity. There's nuances in human behavior that is hard wired in our brains that we are completely unaware of....but when it's not there, we notice something's wrong.

brainbutter: Very nice. I love the model. I'll agree with some of other posts that he is too snappy in places. Adjust your curves to try and smooth some of it out. Also, I think the lyp sync could be a little tighter. The f is not as prominant as would be the case. And something happens to the bridge of his nose in two places, but that may be the compression.

All in all, great work. The character looks cool, the deformations and expressions are great. Keep us posted.
