This is the second time this problem has popped up, in two different files, on two different computers, so I'm hoping it's widespread enough for someone to know a workaround.
Currently I'm having a problem where, sometimes (not always) if I skin an object, then manually set key, it'll take a bunch of vertices from the object and merge them at a random point. Here's an image to demonstrate:

Very strange, especially since it's just a simple FK rig. Also, this doesn't happen with automatic keying - it's very, very specific.
Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
