View Full Version : Help finding specific Charlie Chaplin film
BadMange 01-17-2004, 10:28 PM I'm doing an animation where a character with flowers is pantomiming different ways to ask out a girl. Someone told me there is a Chaplin film with him doing this, but I cannot seem to find it. Anyone here know which film has this? Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

I believe it was City Lights (1931)

No, I just rented that yesterday and that's not it. But thanks for your reply jadamburke.

This scene sounds familiar to me.... and I've only seen one Chaplin film so far: The Gold Rush.
It's possible that I've seen the scene elsewhere (classic films and classic scenes have a way of working themselves into the public consciousness), but I think it's in The Gold Rush.
Good luck! :)

Hey Mooncalf, I rented Gold Rush last weekend but it didn't have what I was looking for. I wound up just filming myself for reference.
Gold Rush is a good movie. Chaplin said if he were to be remembered for only one film, this was it. There is a special ed. DVD (2-disc set) out that has a great restored print of the film. It would be in an animator's best interests to watch all the Chaplin, Keaton and other silent films!

Modern Times? I really think not, but see it, anyway.
Try Buster Keaton films, it's more like it.

in modern times there is a sequence of chaplin singing a song about a relationship. It is really quite good. and burlesque. The whole movie is worth seeing. besides the main girl is reaaly cute.

its really hard to say which specific one you'd want, the tramp character had many encounters where he would woo a woman (or try to at least), I immediately thoughtof citylights too, but I do remember in one of his otherfilms a scene with him holding a flower lifting his hat placing it back on his head and patting his chest, but I can't remember which film thats from, its a mid to close shot of just him almost straight on.
