Question: In 7.5, do I need to create the bones under the model object in layout?, or can I just make a null with a bone rig, and then control any mesh with it?

Up to this point I've used skellegons and created the bones under the model object. I'd like to just create one skeleton rig and use it over and over again for a wide variety of meshes, but haven't figured out how to do it.

Select your boned null, then use REPLACE to replace it with a different object name. The only catch is, any expressions tied to the null's object name won't work if the object name changed. I haven't tried this yet, but next time I plan on loading the LW scene file up into a text editor and using search/replace to swap all references to an object name with a new one.

you can also select your object type shift B for bones, p for properties and in the top drop down list, select the null with the rig.

Couldn't you just parent the new mesh to the null, then tell the mesh to use the bones from the null?

Then you wouldn't have to rename anything.
