First try at a rendering with a fighter :)

hehe...what is the real image ...the clouds or the plane??
hee.. just joking.. looking nice...

Is the clouds a bagground image or 3d ?

something I'll add:
- motionblur
- the white little "tail" effect there is in the wing tip / tail top

sweetness!! love the heat from the engine distortion.

Clouds is a background image. I wish I had Afterburn to do my own though :(

Motionblur: I'll work on it for a future version :)
The white thing: That only happens in sharp turns. If the plane is leveled it doesn't make it :)

thanks for the comments! :)

sharp turns... thanks for the info :bounce:

No problem :)

The contrast of the plane and the background could be adjusted.
Just lower the contrast of the plane a bit
maybe i'm wrong

nice pic

wow who said you couldn't learn about jet physics while cruising the cg forums =) great pic, how'd you make the foreground clouds

Hello!

Unfortunately the background is an image I found laying around in my HD. I hope to get enough money to buy Afterburn. I would love to animate this :)

And I love physics! That's why my images are normally as close to real physics as possible ;)

Thanks for the coments guys!!

I'd adjust the direction of the light on the plane itself, if you want to match it more closely with the background image. Note the direction from which the sunlight is falling on the clouds.

Thanks for pointing that out Jerry :)

Nice site btw :)

I agree with the lighting suggestion. This one is a little tricky to get just right I think. I would also try reducing the intensity of the light a tad; just to see if that helps.

Where the heck can I find hi-res royalty free background images like that???

Free hi-quality sky photos are hard to find, I agree. I prefer to do mine by hand, but then again I'm not not going for photo-realism ;)

Nice one
i love your jet's modelling.
compare to my P-47
sigh...to me my modelling skills is kinda weak now.

anyways, good try! :applause: :applause:

Nice modelling job. the only thing I will say is you definately need a fire effect on the engine exhaust. The jets don't look like they're on. Also, the heat blur distortion is a little too uniform. Looks like you just smudged it in Photoshop. Here's a good tut on doing heat signatures... http://www.dvgarage.com/garage/a2d/tut/tutpast/tutpast_view/tutpast_view.php?tutdate=01_09_15&renders=5&projectfiles=no

nice image, would make a cracking poster!

the contrast/lighting looks a bit out, and the image as a whole is too grainy for my likeing, but still pleasing.

I pressume thats in TopGun liverage, seeing it's a USA fighter in Russian camoflage?

Wow..STRAT..that's a pretty cool comment somehow.. :)

That's a nice image Viper, looking tasty. I think a little more work could be done next time you want to composite things to meld the two together. The image has a certain..well..the background and foreground are clearly defined and very seperated, as it should be I suppose, but generally composite-work like that, imo, works better if something can be done to hide that.
..though I'm not having any suggestions so..whatever :)

Good image though..it has a nice peaceful feel to it..which seems to nicely contrast to the fact that it's a war-machine..dunno if that was deliberate, but I like it though :)

I can't really take credits for the Fighter, I downloaded it from Meshfactory ;) (www.meshfactory.com)

This was just a test to see how my lighting technincs where if I needed to a photorealistic image. I believe I have to make some touches but it's quite good already.

I am working on an F-117 though. Maybe I'll render something like this and post here :)

Thanks for all the comments so far. They were really helpfull :)

Keep posting them though :D

so in essence that all you done is stuck in a light or 2? the plane and backround arn't yours?

and if i didnt mention the planes markings would you have told us? some ppl here were under the impression you modelled the plane. me included.

how about putting us in the picture from the word go next time?

i would add a little glow in the engines

Capt.Jackass

yeah that heat/airdisplacement look coming out of the engines just doesn't do it for me :) lets see some FIRE!!:buttrock:

can you see fire when a jet is just cruising idle?

I don't know...

JerryB
06-25-2002, 04:42 PM
You'll only see flames when the afterburner is on. Any other time, and it's a cause for concern ;)

Viper
06-25-2002, 07:46 PM
Yeah, I thought about that, but it's just flying....

Next pic will feature some combat I hope, then there will be afterburners in place :)
