Here's an update..

I think I'll never paint again anything furry in my life.. total: 9 hours of work, around 7 only for the fur.. if only i knew it will be so boring.. :)

The face is (fortunately) almost finished..
Any ideas for the background? (But keep in mind that I don't want to paint fur anymore ;))

Looks nice. But ehm... 9hours...?
There's a way to paint hair a lot faster:

Err.. Yes 9 hours :/ around 12-13 for latest update..
On the last pic, I used mainly a homemade brush for doing the fur, it did speed up things a bit, but I think the result is visible (upper/upper-left side of the head vs. lower/lower-right side), and I even retouched it (almost) hair by hair..
anyway, thx for the comment :)

I decided to go on with the body, but with less detail than the head..
Are the proportions/values etc correct? They look quite ok to me but other's opinion is always helpful :)
I used another photo as reference, but had to tweak it a little because of a different lighting.. I also used the same color palette as for the head, hope it suits well.. :)

(I scaled down the pic, I didn't realize earlier they were getting so big (kb))

it looks wierd because the head is so high detail - it looks like a photo pasted on a painting.

I like the head and think you should try to do the rest of the body the same way even if it takes a long time. The head looks realistic, which is what I like with animal paintings. Nice job.

Thanks for your comments :)
Started to smudge the last posted pic, then realized i'll have too much work with it, and that it will only be a matter of patience (->boring), not involving any creativity or whatever.. then found a compromise: i'll do only the chest, to avoid having just a floating head as 'finished' artwork.. then i'll work on the background :)
here's an update, before starting workin on it:

yep, also agree about keeping it all realistic,
may take long...but worth the effort...

Thanks for your comments :D
I think it's almost finished.. are there some things that need to be reworked? Like the background? Or is it just fine?
Waiting for your comments, then tomorrow I will move it to the finished artwork section if it's OK :)

Very nice. I like the background; it complements the fur colours well. For some reason my eyes keep going over to the collar tag but I'm sure that's how it is in your photo.
