The LightWave version IS available in the full version.
Great job Mark!

thanks for all the support guys.

What made you think the LW version wasn't out? There is only one version of the commercial Point Oven and that covers Maya, Messiah and LW.

I'd like to know why you thought that it wasn't out so I can be more clear in future.

Many thanks

Mark

the messiah demo plug was only one available so I thought the lw and maya was not out yet. hard to tell with the info there. I was going to use it between LW and Maya so the messiah plug is not useful to me.

Maybe put out a poly limited version so you can put up demos for lw and maya users as well

I ordered anyway since I want to use it.

Thanks for clearing that up.

the site mentioned the messiah plug but said maya and lw not included which I assumed (yeah I know) that the later were not out yet.

I orderd the full version to get the lw plug anyway since it will still be a great tool to add.

BTW when is the line shader going to be released. Need any beta testers, :)

thanks,

Jay

oh I see what you mean. I will address that to remove any confusion.

Thanks for the order ;-).

As for the line shader, there are no plans to release it. Its a really big project and I don't think I really have time to support it. My other concern with it is it doesn't use the latest state of the art NPR techniques and compared to Final Toon and Tomcat, it doesn't look that great. But maybe when I get some free time I'll take what I've learnt from LineFX and write a tool that really will have you drooling. ;)

Thanks

Mark

Any chance to have an XSI version ?

just bought it, i hope to use it on some clothdynamics stuff to render in maya with mentalray. as i only have maya complete and the softbody dynamics are not too usefull for cloth simulation i hope to get it going this way.

question to the plugin writer. :

i model usually in lightwave , export to maya as obj., animate in maya, and would like to render in maya too using mentalray. is it possible to animate a character in maya without clothdynamics, export to LW via your plugin and run the clothsim there, then reexport the whole thing back to maya and render?

disclaimer: i am still a LW addict and poweruser, at least at modeling. but I still study and therefor take my precious time to learn a second and third app to have more job oportunities when iīm finished. I know maya is not the best at modeling and rendering but i hope to get it done with my pipeline anyway.

I have replied to you personally but here's for everybody else.

I do think this is possible, I can't see why not. The only difference is that you would have to use the LWO importer for Maya that comes with Point Oven. This importer maintains Point Orders. So as long as you do that it should be fine. Thats presuming you have all the relevant knowledge of Motion Designer.

Thanks

Mark,
I was waiting for my license so I thought I would begin to layout a new interface, moving buttons and such. I made the mistake of running scan for plugin and it quit modeler on me! I lost all my work. It quit on me when i got the license I just forgot that it would happen again if I did a scan for plugin.

Is there anyway you can just make the plugin close itself or say sorry you don't have a license would you like to demo it, badges? where's your stinkin badges! anything but close modeler down.

Hi, sorry about the plugin quitting the app when not licensed. This is annoying, but the best thing to do is just remove the plugin until your license ships. I don't know you're email from this but I have just processed any outstanding codes. So you should be up and running now.

Best regards,

Mark ;)

thanks I got my code. wil try it tonight on a model I animated using acs4.

I have a question and a feature request.

the question

are the moves relative? That is I have a model drop into a crouch but some point don't go where i want. If I then pull these points out and select all as my range with they be stuck at the same location for the rest of teh animation or relative to their original position?

The request is if you can add or will you add a frame range. In my example the point is only bad for like 20 frames out of a 300 frame animation. So a range of all is too much and 20 frames is alot to do by hand. Is this doable at some point in the future?

Thanks,

Can't wait to get hom to try this out.

thanks too for the license and the replies on my emails. unfortunately i suffer the uncompatibility of alias own apps as the maya plugins donīt work in 4.5

:banghead:

but mark said heīd look into supporting 4.5 as well if it wasnīt too much work, (lets hope its not, a lot of peoples havenīt upgraded yet).

please make it happen, as i wanted to wait for the upgrade untill the next release. and then weīll have the same problems again. as maya seems never to be down- or upstream compatible, sigh.

Question. Yes, they are relative.

Request. Very doable, I hope to add some cool stuff to MDD edit in coming patches. Which will be free to licensed users btw.

Thanks

Mark ;)

Hi Mark. Does this plugin offer a "smartskin" workflow for Lightwave? For instance, can we rotate a bone, tweak deformations in Modeler and never have to tweak those vertices again for any future rotations?

MrWyatt
01-15-2004, 02:34 PM
I believe not as this plugin saves the deformation of a geometry so that in the ens you donīt even have bones or any other deformers in the scene. it literally bakes the position of each vertex on a frame by frame basis. what you can do thou is animate, bake and then tweak the frames in modeler where the vertices are messed up. but as in some angle ( when an arm is straight for example) you wouldnt want to change the deformation as it is good, you would only want to tweak the vertices when the arm bends. so you should scrub thru the baked animation in modeler and tweak the vertices one by one everytime the arm bends, but not for all frames, as that would look odd on frames where the arm is straight.

fez,

Its not smartskin. MrWyatt has got it right.

Cool plug. :)

I hope to use Maya along with LW in the future, and this plug should let me....sweet.

another question I came up with:

1. when rendering in maya an animation baked out of lightwave, is it possible to then transfer the maya file to another maya user?

2. will the animation still be there or does it at all times need to read the mdd file and thus need the plugin for every machine involved?

as i am on a uni and we have four pcīs running maya plus my own computer to wich i licensed the plugins and as i want to render with mentalray i wanted to let every pc render itīs own scene, so no networkrendering with a server solution.

markpassion

I will be releasing a solution for network rendering or just rendering on other boxes. Basically it wil be just the same mdd reader plugins without the interfaces so you can't change anything.

This is part of the package you have paid for I just haven't sent it out yet. Should be with you this weekend.
