It's very cool...
I don't know what it is, but the tie somehow doesn't look right...
And the pose, I'm not sure I like this pose... (but hey that's personal...)

nice!!!
how do you go from the first image to the last, it doesn't make sense... (to me)
smudge tool??? i don't understand, i am weak.
gustavogf: Thanks! Tie: Maybe because there's a sheen on only one side?
Windex: Thanks! I NEVER use the smudge tool. Well.... almost never. I used to.. but it made everything too smooth. I set my brush opacity to anywhere from 20% to 50% and let my thumb hover over the Alt key. I then sample from the canvas and paint sample and paint sample and paint and so on.

cool...........good to see the steps u work this in.......
one thing that strikes me........its the lower lip - hard edge along the lip seems it should be softer/rounder............
otherwise.........looks great, good work........especially like the lonely strands of hair on his head
Thanks juju!
You're right about the lower lip. I fixed it on the last pass.
I posted it in the finished section if you want to take a look.

Are you consciously going for a complementary palette here with the purple and yellow? Just wondering because the orangey-pink color is kind of jarring along with those other two colors. Doesn't seem quite right in the initial sketch, but you cover it up mostly further along so it's no big deal. I'd say you could use some complements in the shaded areas to make the skin more luminous and to neutralize the purple here and there.
To nitpick too...I think it could use cooler tones somewhere for contrast, because right now everything's really warm. Just enough to really make the figure "pop". That little bit more could push a really good image toward great.
Really nice work on the modeling, light and rendering of wrinkles and different clothing textures, as well as a sensitive depiction of an older person's eyes. Lots of people tend to make the whites too white, and in older people, the whites turn kind of yellowish. You've got that nicely here....
Nice work!
