Ok, so far I have created a decent looking tileable section of Carbon Fiber looking pattern shown below.

I am using 3D studio Max 5.1 Sp1 and PhotoShop 6 and 7, how can i make the texture have a glossy effect and reflect like the real thing? Is this possible? Here is a reference pic for anybody wanting to give this a shot.

The sample pattern above is a very crappy quality version. Thats because the original is too large to post. If you want the full image its attatched below.

The reflection is a separate effect in 3ds max from the color of the surface pattern, and is quite possible. Look up Reflection in the help file for more info about how it works. Once you've tried something, post an example for feedback.

Thanks for the help, i almost had it last night but it wouldnt work on the hood, it looked good on the mirrors, even had a glossy reflection, but when i applied it to the hood it didnt have a gloss or a reflection on the hood. I still havent figured out why yet. But i will check out the help section thanks. I will post som rendered shots of what i was talking about above!

It has to be able to reflect something for you to see specular or reflection. chances are that your object that didn't work just wasn't 'catching' the highlight at the right angle.

Thats a good point thanks. I just realized that i had the camera facing away from the car and there is nothing for it to reflect or anything to show off the glossiness. Thanks alot! I will post some render shots of the material as it is now when i get home from work tonight. Thanks for the help.
