This is a quick character sketch I did in about ten minutes.

It's for a film project I'm working on (obviously still in early concept stages). Sort of a wandering warrior class, hence the samuri links. Will probably try to tone that aspect down a little, want to keep the sword, but maybe change the clothes.

It may be important to note that this character is not meant to look especially 'natural', as in she isn't exactly made of skin and bones etc. Kind of hard to explain, but the world she lives in is very delapidated, nothing works quite as it should, and everything's pieced together from borrowed parts.

Anyway, any comments / suggestions are, as always, welcome.
Thanks.

I really like this style, kinda like Tim Burton meets Nintendo.

The eyes darkened like that make the character look possesed, is this the idea?

10 min! she's great character already The arc shapes you used for the face, and the torso/kimono are nice an simple and relate to each other. Good to see something that's more "Designed" than realistic and not anime.

Do more, this is fun stuff.

Interesting. She is like a sort of Japanese mosquito of the world war 4.
What can you do in five minutes!:)

Great concept!

Suggestions? Here goes:
maybe give her a kimono (out of platic bags?). Will probably fit better with the samurai-feeling.
Love the make-up, reminds me of bladerunner, but keep it that way.

Keep updating!

Thanks guys, I'll try to update this tomorrow.

Wacom_Knight: She's not meant to look possessed, but a little detatched. Not quite there. The idea of the film (in a very broad sense) is to create a second hand world, where everything is essentially empty of ideals. Hopefully it won't turn out as depressing as that makes it sound!

Sleepless: One of my main aims with this film is to make a good piece of functional design. The characters are to be simple, but emotive. I want all of the machinery to be well taught out and practical (I don't want to show anything that you couldn't really build).

The main problem I'm trying to get over at the moment is that with her head proportioned as it is, the reach of her arms isn't very much in a practical sense. Although it looks nice in a 2D sketch, I think this might prove to be a problem when it comes to using the sword. Let me know if you have any suggestions here. ;)

Cgkoko: Really? You should post some pics, we can compare notes!! (my story outline is pretty bizarre, so I doubt there's any similarities there)

jeroentje: The facial markings will probably change (almost definitely actually, as they need to represent certain things, and also compliment the shape of the head, which may also change).

While her character type is pretty close to a samuri (kind of a Yojimbo type deal), I'm actually trying to get away from the look visually. I don't want people to immediately think samuri, although it is the initial inspiration and start of the design. To this end, I will probably change her hair and her costume. Her costume is to be a lot more ragged, and practical for someone who travells alot. Lots of packs and collected bits and pieces.

Anyway, will update soon. Meanwhile, keep the suggestions coming!

I really think you should keep the hairstyle...it's pretty cool! I don't think it's all that samurai-ish either, if you're trying to get away from that.
Great work all around:thumbsup:
