View Full Version : question about modeling in viewports
Talking_Pie 01-10-2004, 06:23 AM hi i have modeled a few faces with reference photos in my front viewport and side viewport along with perspective to help me. my question is this, i know that when you look at your model in the front viewport it looks a bit squashed out, should i actually use the front viewport as a means of reference for modeling, or is the viewport squeuing what i see and thus not presenting me with a true image as oppose to like a perspective viewport.

Well, i've heard somewhere that you can take a reference picture with a camera with a lot of zoom and that'll be almost the same that you'd see in the front viewport for example.
I don't know, I (and many people) always do my models in top - front - side views and check the perspective view to see if everything is going well.
Modelling in only orthographic view (front/side views) can create a distorted model but there's no reason not to use them just keep checking your model in perspective view! Oh and make sure your perspective camera is set to a sensible focal length, around 50 - 55mm is around the focal length of the human eye. - Baz
