Hi!

I`m trying to get a Reference Image into my scene! So I create a plane, assign the Texture to it and am able to see it in the scene.

My problem is, that I want to keep the image ratio of my Image but Maya keeps stretching it all over my plane.

As for the plane, I have checked "Preserve Aspect Ratio" for the texture, but it just won`t work!

Any suggestions??

select your surface, open the AE click on the material tab and onto the little arrow on the right side of the color swatch. then you'll see a new tab in the AE (place2Dtexture..) click on it. here you'll find everything that can deform the texture in the UV Space. play aorund with the coverage and translate frame values.

why don't you do it by an image plane ??

Well as I get it, the image Plane is fixed to the Camera, right? Correct me if I`m wrong.

Well I want to have a front and a side view as reference.

Also wondered why I can`t just tell Maya to keep the ratio of the imagefile!

I used to work with Max, there I just could tell Max to fit the ratio to the one from the file.

yes they are attached to the camera. but you can have one imageplane for each cam. so most of the time people create one for the front view and one for the side view. i guess this is what you search for.

Thanks man!

I`ll go and try it out!!

Anyway, is there a way to tell maya to keep a ratio for any texture?? Just curious!

But the image moves with the camera svenip, so zooming in isn't possible anymore, and moving around... not a chance.
And image planes have that weird blur effect when you move the camera, that makes positioning the image a pain in the butt.

The best way I've found to have imageplanes, is to first assign the picture to a single polygon plane, then if the image's 640*480, scale the plane to 640 (Or 64) wide and 480 (Or 48) high and then scale it to appropriate size and move around. To make it even better I usually up the transparency of the plane's shader so I can see trough it, and if it's for some ortographic camera, you can move it to the horizon so it doesn't interfere with the perspective, but still can be seen by the ortographic cameras! Marvelous!
Oh and to still make it better, assign it to a layer and make the layer "template" so you can't select it anymore.

ohh you can zoom with the values for the imageplane  even moving is possible. ok it's not so nice like with your methode, but possible :)

you can also assign them to layers to switch on and off, no prob :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Goto www.highend3d.com and look for "UltraImagePlanes.mel"... a handy script.
