Hi, i'm attempting to rig a model of a fire extinguisher i've made for a short animation. I've managed to rig both the body and the head how i'd like them, but i'm having trouble with the hose part.

This is my character (http://www.lazymanc.com/images/final_char.jpg)

This is the hose problem (http://www.lazymanc.com/images/HOSE_Spline.gif) im having.

Basically as soon as I complete the IK Spline, the GOAL jumps to the bottom of the rig taking the bones with it... i'm not sure whats causing this, or how to fix it... any ideas?

Update: Ok, I thought i'd worked out how to fix it - I linked the first spline helper to the head rotation helper I had made and that seems to work with the exact range of motion that im looking for.

last bone in body

However, if I now try and access the hose mesh modifier panel, max crashes with an application error. Someone mentioned that this is most likely due to a hierarchy error, but i'm not sure which order im allowed to attach stuff in, so now im back to square 1.

Has anyone made a rig that's had two IKSpline solvers before? Is it possible to have one as a child of the other?

Please please help, i've been stuck on this for 1 1/2 days now, its starting to drive me nuts.

I presume the bones of the hose are linked the the bones of the body... no no no. This is what give you shait.

Make sure the 1st bone of the hose isnt linked to anything.

Then make yer spline ik

If you did figure it out and my advise was wrong, please let me know so i too can learn from this

In the end I linked the first spline helper and the IK Goal to the head rotation control and that seemed to work ok.

Final animation can be seen in divx 505 format here (http://www.lazymanc.com/3dsmax/ls_divx_small.rar) (4.4mb)

Check it out and see what you think :)
