Hey all,

This is my second installment of me trying to get back into digitally painting my work. The last one I posted entitled: "Speak No evil" wasn't getting too many responses. I think becasue I just posted it after it was almost done.

So here is my next project from the gecko. Line art based. I will be painting it in photoshop and painter. Please give me some ideas on anything from color palettes to use and possible a background to put him in. Also, I would like to know what you all think of the line work I am using.

thanks a ton in advance

I like the concept, I would redraw the legs in this, maybe even redraw a 2nd time to see if any other concepts emerge. The only other thing that bugs me is the lower eyelid on the guy on the right side. keep up the good work

I can't tell what's going on with the tongue (or is it lower lip) of the guy with the hat. Maybe make it a bit more clear? Also, the leg right under that head seems out of balance. I'd suggest moving it to the right a little (the creature's left).

thanks for the suggestions thus far. That leg is definately off center and is really making the character look off balance. The thing on the right heads face is actually his beard though. lol I will push that out as well.

Thanks again..

Here is the first color palette treatment. I want the character to look warm and inviting in skin tone, with a hint of "oldness" and lak of saturation. I am thinking about putting him into a library or office of somesorts.

Any suggestions????

I am now working on some detail work early. Eyes and the hair. I do it this way to get an idea if I want the skin fair or worn. What do you all think????

i really like the style, although it's confusing at points, but i'm sure you were trying for that, i agree, keep the skin worn

One thing you should do for sure is add some different tones into the flesh like some subtle greens and blues coming from different light sources will give it a ton more depth. Maybe add a stronger light source and more refined hilight and shadows. coming along good keep up the good work.

definitely starting to like it more now that it's painted.

i know you're forcing perspective, but i think the thing that's still bugging me the most is that the shell is too small behind the heads. Even with insane foreshortening, that thing's not THAT far behind them. I dunno.

values on the fleshtones are coming out great, I agree that you need some more color tones in there but i like the base color.

just noticed the hair detail on the beards... that's COOL.

hey, more color in the flesh tones helped out alot! One more suggestion, add a strong light souce from 1 or 2 sides it will give it a ton more depth and create a dramatic mood. IMO its getting alot better.

sorry for the delay, its getting busy at work. I have been doing some more detail on the skin, I think I am not liking the tone of the skin. Not sure. IS ANYONE OUT THERE?!?!?! I also began sketching in a catacomb-like environment, still adding a foreground element. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU ALL LIKE IT OR HAVE ANY SUGGS???? please?

thanks again in advance

It's difficult to descibe an emotion somewhere between awe and jealousy

I don't know how far any opinions I give at this stage will be valid, although Imaybe some detail on the floor?
it just doesn't seem as if the floor is connected to the walls or something - no biggie :)

looks excellent.

I think the enviroment draws too much attention from the turtoise. Why not an outdoor setting on a lawn, with this turtoise "mansion" in the far distant?

More rich colors would suit the lines in the image too I think.

Nice work!
