For anyone that is interested, i am in the process of releasing a three part video series on creating a biped rig from scratch, the first part which deals with hips, legs and feet is now available to download from my site, the second part should be available later today which goes through the process of building your own custom spine, and the third will follow a few days after that, which will deal with the arms, hands and rest of the rig.
All the videos are for/done in Softimage|XSI.
