Hi!
I use MAYA3.0 and Windows2000+Sp2.Yesterday my MAYA went wrong.
1.The option panel of "Render Globals" can not be opened normally now. When I use it first,it can not be opened, and MAYA warns:[Error: Invalid flag:-font].Then I open it again, this time the option panel of "Render Globals"appears, but there is nothing in the panel except for three menus, and MAYA warns:[Error:Object not found:fileName]and[Error: Cannot find procedure "nodePreset"].Moreover, the menus miss some items!
2.After the option panel of "Render Globals" was wrong, the Visor view has nothing always.
So,I can not keep working. Please tell me what it happened and how to solve the problems! Thank you very much!

uninstall it, then CLEAN OUT YOUR REGISTRY (thats the most impoartant part) then install it again. The registry is kind of a bitch. Programs you "unintsall" leave a little footprint there, so for programs with a 30-day limit, it leaves the registry entry there so you can't just keep re-installing it (unless you clean the registry).

Maya doen`t keep his setting in the Windows Registry

all Maya setting can be found in here

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\maya\4.0\prefs

replace the "Administartor" with your user

Thanks!
But I have some other questions now.
1 How to CLEAN OUT the REGISTRY?
2 If I should delete C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\maya\3.0\prefs,would this problem be solved?

1.Some programs are made just to search for unused stuff in your registery and clean them out, but as Sanctuary said, no Maya related stuff in there so no need to discuss more about it...

2. If you're afraid to delete it, just copy the whole "3.0" folder out into some other place, and see if it helped. If everything is still all messed, you can just copy it back and continue to search the problem.

I'm not saying this is your problem or that cleaning it will definitly help, but I did find maya in the registry.
This is quick directions to where it lye's if you wish to delete and then reinstall maya:
1) start button>run> type "regedit"
2) registry will appear look under " HKEY_LOCALMACHINE> Software>Alias Wavefront
(select this folder and hit delete)
3) Then under HKEY_Current_User> Software> Alias Wavefront
(select this folder and hit delete)

NOTE: This will safely take it out of your system. Make sure its uninstalled before doing this, and be carefull not to "mess" with anything else. Enough said, Sorry to sound like dad there, but I believe the registry edit can be dangerous at times...lol

Good Luck!

ME3D those are just empty registry entryes there`s no need to detele them.

shanfengzi you can detele the entire C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\maya folder because he will be created again when you will start Maya again, better use the -wT- advice ...
