View Full Version : HDRI as reflection only
EricCartman 01-08-2004, 05:45 PM Is there a way to use HDRi map as reflection only, so it is not rendered in Brazil as the ugly background.

there are a couple ways to do this, depending on what you are rendering with.
you can put the hdri map on a large sphere, with it's normals flipped, that surrounds your whole scene. the sphere's material will need to be self-illuminating, and you will need to set the sphere to not cast or recieve shadows and to not be visible to the camera. this technique should work with any renderer that can handle hdri.
if you are using brazil, you can simply dump the hdri map into the environment slot of a material, and it gives you the same effect as if the hdri was in the background, but on a per-material basis. although i'm not sure if this is in both public test and full versions, or just full version.
i'm not sure if vray and/or fR have ways to do this as well
