Has anyone come up with a good way to animate pivot points in Maya?

I've been experiementing a little and found one way that works great when you are animating, but it's a real problem when you want to go back and alter keys at the begining of the animation.

At the moment I have a little interface that snaps the pivot between 5 locations on the foot, heal, ankle, toe, right side and left side. It does this by looking at the location of hidden locators and then snaps the pivot to them, while at the same time keyframing the pivot with a step tangent. The locators are parented to the main foot control so they don't get left behind. This all works really well and it's a very nice way to animate, untill you want to go back and alter the animation, which causes a lot of problems with the foot jumping around.

I thought it was time to ask if anyone else has any better ideas on this subject?

Thanks,

Richard
