I don't know what the hell is going on, but for some reason I have to use totally excessive sizes for my fonts for them to even show up!

Ex. when they're 12pt they only a pixel tall!

super high resolution....ie your pt to pixel ratio is high?

Image > Image Size.

Yeah, sounds like you have a high resolution set for your image. You may have to adjust your image size after lowering the resolution.
