View Full Version : Futuristic City (Big update)
DSedov 06-21-2002, 06:10 PM Hello all again!
This time it looks more and more like AOTC. Im still working on the textures. I have 16 different types of building and maybe 1-3 variations of each type. I just did a texture test on on of them and some fly through camera work =)
Please, watch full screen to get the compleate effect =)
C&C is required =)
Here is animation:
Let me know if someone has problems with this codec. Should I use something more widely used?

Looks good:thumbsup: But it seems the camera is too shakey or something....I dont know what your going for, i dont think i followed your last thread. Maybe add in a little more background lighting or something to fill in the blackness. I like the lighting of the buildings...maybe try a more staight motion instead of that sharp turn around the building, it would be good to see some more around the city. sort of reiminded me of the city chase in episode 2,(thats a good thing:D )

Looks Pretty good but i think that there should be moonlight or something that lights up the buildings a bit more. Very good.

Downloaded, try to watch. Wasted time.
How can I critique or comment on something I can not see?
Must be Divx 5.0.2
And that's why ladies and gents I HATE DIVX.

Thank you guys! I've got rid of the shake and put some more advertisements and lights. Also the darkness on background is because the scene is not quite finished yet there will be A LOT more buildings as well as flying cars.
PS. Saw Minority report today ... really really nice style, and very original!!! So I might rethink some concepts as well as come up with something unusual.
anieves : Well since you dont like DIV-X, also dont know why, it is has a really, if not best, quality/size ration, which format would you like?

You POS, why would you rip on someone because you don't know how to install a simple codec that everyone uses!?

OH AND
HERE'S THE BEST ADVICE YOU'LL FIND ON HOW TO MAKE THE SCENE BETTER... Take some time and make your buildings more 3D. The buildings flown by, basically look like big squares with some decent textures on them. A good trick, is to model your buildings, hollow the building out, and then cut holes for the windows. When that's done, make like 3 or 4 little template rooms with a few sprites, and a few super-low-poly models, and light the thing. Then slap that behind where your window is cut out, on every window you have on each building, and bam, super realistic buildings.
You may also want to work on your bump maps, and do something to make the lighting stand out more bro.

Thanks a lot Matt. Really usefull tip.. I never did buildings before and I have no education in architecture whatsoever.
I have a project that im doing but I keep remaking the backgrouds for 3 weeks now.. Besides switching from Maya to Lightwave, I have made more buildings then there probably are in Manhettan. This is the only textured building in LW so I just multiplied more of them... more then that im building my tip-list on how to make realistic building, when I actually create a scene that ilike in every aspect (not perfect, but something believable) I might do a tutorial I guess. I've read more about architecture for the past month and bought books then .... ohh well I guess I will have a dipression soon. I watched downloaded crappy version of AOTC's chase scene probably 100 times now.. JEah.. aaaahhhhh......:argh:   :buttrock:

What you have at the moment is fantastic, but here are some observations:
-More Lights - below a cirtain height, the buildings have no lights - they need lights
- More Buildings - The city feels kinda empty,
-Atmosphere - there should be a yellowy-orange fog, coming from the base of the buildings,
-Atmosphere 2 - there also should be a sky.
-Camera - The camera gets a bit to close to the building, revealing too much building detail.
-Traffic - This is the BIG thing!!
Its looking good though

Very nice Matt... I have Divix and the thing is probably the buggiest piece of codec ever. I seriously dbout that "evryone" use it.
Mac owners have hassales with it, PC owners admit that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't which is my case. I have found that v4 works best.
And those awful artifacts... and terrible sound...
How come Flash is so succesful and 98% of users (mac and PC) have it?
maybe the divx publishers should ask themselves that question.
One thing I have learned over the years working in web dev is to INCLUDE AS MANY USERS AS POSSIBLE without the need of installing, dowloading or going through troubles to deliver to your audience.
If you want me to review something and critique, you better make damn sure I can see it.
How about I was currently hiring a freelancer (which I do once in a while to help me out) and I get a promo I can not watch? If I can not watch it I simply move on to the next freelancer.

Well I frankly asked you about what codec would you like it to be in and had no answer so far.

sorry, forgot your request and I've been working on a video edit all weekend long.
mpeg movies I think are the most safe... there are plenty of players that can play mpg movies. On both, Mac and PC.
Hopefully Quicktime 6 with mpg4 will give us a good alternative. There are players out there that would be able to play quicktime mpg4 movies without the quicktime player.
I, personally like Quicktime and Windows media.
Don't really care for Real.

LOL! DiVX is Mpeg4.... So is the newer version of Windows Media... DiVX has been around a while now and I have yet to find a person that doesn't know how to install it / view the files... I know that you don't like it and all, but just be a sport and go download the thing, it's quick, easy, and the quality / size ratio is great. And the sound quality is excellent, it just depends on who encodes the sound...
On the C&C part of it... I would like to see the newer revision of it before passing any kind of judgement... The old copy though I agree has way too much jitter, but you said you fixed that... so I guess I have nothing against it ;)

Exactly, and thats whats so funny... most people COULD stop tinkering w. the DivX hack and just do winmedia files instead... same thing. :)
But I must say the DivX codec gives me WAY more control over the MPG4 encoding than any winmedia encoder I've tried.

Hi kreno.
I guess I didn't explain myself well enough...
I mention QT6 because it will encode mpg4 but you could still be able to view them in other mpg4 players without installing any other software, extensions etc.(asuming you have an mpg4 player 8-) I would test the preview release and see how it stack up but I'm in the middle of production and I don't install ANYTHING while in the middle of production.
Master Zap, Exactly what I mean, Exactly!!!
I have Divx!!!!!!!!
I have found several divix movies I've been able to watch just fine but the developers are catering to just a certain group of people and v5 IS buggy as hell.
