Sanctuary 06-21-2002, 03:58 PM i have imported a .bvh file into Maya using this plugin (http://www.ict.usc.edu/graphics/animWeb/humanoid/programs.html) wich create an skeleton acording with the inpuit data (.bvh file)
how can i scale the new skeleton without breaking the animation ?

create a control object (whatever a circle or just a locator) put in the place where you want your scale pivot and parent the root joint under that. then scale this.
DON'T SCALE THE JOINTS ITSELF

after i`ll scale can i unparent the skeleton right ?

yes off course :) but i would leave it for generall purposes. in our production we call this ScalePosition and this gives you the freedom to move your skeleton in scene without loosing the animation because the anim is relativ to this node.

Can you do this by grouping the root?
I'm not clear on the differences between grouping and parenting

well the two methods are basiclly the same thing, but i think svenip method it`s the best choice because you can see where the pivot point/locator is even if the group is not selected.
the diference i think is pure visual :) or not :D
Well, in fact you can show the groupīs selection handle so you can see it at any time (in case you group instead of parent).
I saw the BVH importer for MAYA via plugin, I wrote the author to compile a MAYA 4.5 version and got no response, any advises?

A group just parents the objects you have selected under a null(dummy node).

There's no difference aside from visual between parenting to a shape and grouping to itself. Both methods just add another transform node above the root joint. Take a look in the hypergraph and you'll see what I mean.
