Ok, I'm going to actually try to put some effort in and finish this one. It seems everytime I enter a contest, something always comes up and I never have time to work on it.
I'm going to remake the "blue guy" from Contra 3 "The Alien Wars". I love this game, so much fun!

I'll put some game sprite pictures up in a minute, to give everyone a better idea of what he looks like in game...

Thanks for the encouragement Xaint! I have decided against the concept sketch... Since I sat down to draw some concepts and about two hours later all I had was trash paper and nothing. I'll just go off the top of my head with this one (hope it doesn't come back to bite me later, but we'll see what happens)...
Actually I need some help. I've started modellng the lower half, and I've run into some problems with the crotch area, and the backside. Can anyone help me out with this?

I can't seem to figure out how to shape this area right, without losing the shape of the rest... Any ideas? Thanks.

EDIT:Grrrr! well as you can tell, remote linking is forbidden, so try this

Hmm, well it appears that I have no where to host these images, i'll keep going but its gonna be hard to enter this contest if no one can see my entries :(

Hiya,

Crotch area huh, and the ass huh :P
Don't spend to much time down there ;)

When I model a crotch i use some kind of V-shape.
I mean line your edges up in a V-shape.
And maybe add some more detail.

For the butt, well. I'd add another edge so you can
shape the ass in the side view.

I know this won't help you :P cuz I don't get it meself.
Well hope you find a way. Good luck!

Thanks again prs phil your examples really helped me a lot. I have a major update but I don't have any way to host up my pictures. Does anyone know any free web hosting that allows you to link to pictures so I can post my progress here?

Don't be afraid to add mode detail and also to remove it if it's too much and disurbs you in editing. The ass had not enough detail to shape the form. But you've probably solved this.
Also if you're just getting into modelling I'd suggest you Wings3D (www.wings3d.com). I used to Max, but now I'm flying! Maybe it's late for this comp to change between apps, it depends on how much time you have for it.

Ok I might actually be able to make some progress this time :) I believe I might actually finish this competition! Anyway, thanks to everyone, and thanks happosai311 for the walagata link. Heres my progress so far guys, still very much wip, but i'm working on it!
He is setting at 1080 faces (tris) unless max is lying to me...

I got a lot of work left, I plan to give him a gun and the whole nine so we'll see. (I'm just dredding the skinning/rigging part, i'm a total noob when it comes to that)
I had some hands that I ripped from another model as placeholders but I need to make some new ones for this guy, also got to get started on the head but I hope you guys like it.
If anyone knows where I could add a little more detail feel free to let me know :)

No replies yet? Is it that bad, i thought it was an imporvement over what i had before :) i'm looking for some advice on where i should start with the hands, not sure how i should go about doing them. Tricky they are!

For the hands, try starting with a box, extrude 4 fingers and a thumb. Keep dividing edges and sculpting it, until it looks like your own hand.

Your model is starting to shape up nicely. Perhaps bring in the outer most hip vertices a little? His feet look a little small to easily balance a frame like that.

I really like his profile. Nice dynamic body shape there.

Hey, cool stance and form! I like the flow!
Too much hole between the legs and model the crack of the ass, as far as the jeans deepens there. (this will also support the posing and animation) Also note, that you'll need plus polygons to maintain the shape after posing. (like bent knees, shoulder, etc...)
Sorry if you know these, but I assume it's your first model. Looking fine for a first tho.
Ride On!

*Edit*
So U used nendo. Then it's not your first model. If wou'd like to import the model into Wings3d, then make sure It's a closed surface, and has no broken vertices or anything like that. Make a weld vertices in Max, then an STL check if you want to be sure.

Yeah good point Nahaz I didn't even notice how small his feet were compared to the rest, i'll fix that. And the good suggestion for the hands, I was trying to tie cylinders together, but i wasn't getting very good results so i'll try your suggestion.
Xaint, so I should add more detail to his joints? No problem there, i'll get on it. And you say I should model his um crack? Well as far as low poly humans go this is probably only about my second or third full one. I usually start one and then it turns to crap so I delete it and start over :) I think I'll finish this in max, I'm pretty comfortable with the tools there and I can usually move pretty quick in the interface (and I love the poly tools) Ring and loop selections pluc connect are my best friends! Probably another update later today (hopefully with hands and added detail as suggested by you guys so see you soon)

ok small update, added some hands (unsure on wether i like them or not, and added detail, and enlarged the feet, we'll see i'll probably change a lot but i don't have much time to work today so this is all i have)
