View Full Version : Game Art Comp 5: Neil: Excite Bike
A few i've been debating between:
Lemme know which you prefer.
(of course, he will be doing the wheely at all times, posed that way)
This boss from Altered Beast:

if I had not chosen Wonderboy I would have loved to have done Paperboy...or the dude from Splatterhouse
do excitebike...but make sure he is all 80's tough...big crappy 80's bike too...

i would love to see your rendition of the altered beast boss.

Bald Bull 'cuz well.. he's original! ^_^ Love that game. I'll maybe do one from punchout aswell.
Well gee, thanks guys! That narrowed it down to.... oh wait, they were all chosen. :)
I think i'll just go excite-bike.
Here's what i did for about an hour or two last night.
Still a cool 3000 polys to use on details! ;)
here is an update with some more polys.
i'm at like 1500ish, i doubt i'll be anywhere close to 3500 at the end.
This is supposed to be cartooney, not realistic.

You can add lots and lots of details with those spare 3000 poly's you've got.
I think the bike can be closer to the real thing, but still retain cartoony proportions. Same goes for the guy on the bike.
Here is an update (i know you're gonna say, what does that show...) well i'm just putting it up to show that i'm onto texturing now and i'm still working on it.
I haven't forgotten :)
Here is some painting from last night.
Some lines are still crooked and wavy, but once i get the pattern of the clothes all layed out, then i can fine groom the lines :)
Hope you dig the outfit. Wanted to make him a little more creative than... oh.. all orange, haha.

Props up, I want to see the bike :)

thats clasic :D
01-30-2004, 11:20 PM
much better lol :D
Nice to see such acceptance of the new outfit. Thanks.
Here's the WIP of the bike.
Used a few reference photos, mixed up features of each.

Very cool. The bike and the guy both look great. I wouldn't go overboard on the texture detail. I like what you've achieved so far with simple shapes and lines.
I think i'm done with the bike. I added some dirt to it. Now that i see it posted, i wonder if i should add some more highlights to the shocks?
I'll finish of the guy next. Do some lighting, and crap. And then i can finally end this, haha. Fun contest, but taking me longer than i wanted.... too busy with other stuff.

Looks good man.. i dig the textures version of the bike. The studio I work at did the Excitebike for N64 :P
Keep us posted man

Go Go Go Neil!
Your lil guy and bike are looking great! Truly Retro.

Neil this is looking great. The dirt textures are looking good, now slap a little mud on your rider and you'll be all set...

Looks great, simple and effective. I loved this game! building your own tracks was the best!
Looks like a new KTM Dirtbike.

man that looks pretty cool its like a piece of lego :)
its just my opinion but maybe you should texture in some springs and shocks to the bike.
but its looking good :)
So, i think i'm done.
Unless you see anything else that needs changing, i guess this is it. I still might make another render or 2 with more guys racing.

This is just begging to get animated :p
Thanks for the comments guys!
Ancient-pig: i guess i appreciate yours the most then, since you guys put out an excite bike title :)
Here is the group shot i made:
I took the easy/time-efficient route and just color corrected the uniforms to give it the impression of a whole new outfit.
Since that's how the game was anyway, same guy, different colors, i'll use that as my excuse ;)

Wow, great work. Two thumbs up.

the bikers seem bigger then the bike. might have not read all the posts..but that's what it appears like.
02-11-2004, 11:55 PM
Cool, I like it !!
It just keeps the feeling of the game!
02-12-2004, 12:01 AM
HAHA, i loved this game... and your model is really great :D.
If there could be the possibility of recreating the game but with this 3D model..... could be cool ;)

OH MY GOD!! This has to be the best pick. I think after I finish typing this post, i'm going to grab the game and see if my old nintendo has some juice!
Great model, nice textures.. Good job!
